Method

Marking the 32 Outer Padas (Devta Pads) on a Plan

After zoning, mark the 32 outer padas of 11.25 degrees each: Soma (N5) is centred on exact North, extending 5.625 degrees on each side, and the remaining padas follow every 11.25 degrees.

What it does

Locates each devta pad on the plan for precise door and object placement.

Samagri used

  • Zoned plan with exact North marked
  • 81 pad chakra or protractor
  • Scale and pencil

How to do it

  1. 1Take the exact North line through the centre; it is the centre line of the Soma pad (N5).
  2. 2Mark 5.625 degrees on each side of it to get the two edges of Soma.
  3. 3From these edges keep marking every 11.25 degrees all around.
  4. 4With the chakra: place its centre on the centre, align the red N5 mark with exact North and put a dot at the end of each black line.
  5. 5Draw lines from the centre through the dots; marking half the circle works because each line passes through the centre, but mark the full 360 degrees for clarity.
  6. 6Label the padas N5, N6, N7, N8, E1, E2 and so on, using the 81 pad devta names.

Explanation and notes

This is the outer 32 pad marking. The full 45 devta marking is taught later, step by step: first 16 zones, then 32 padas, then 45 padas.

Principle

32 Outer Devtas of the 81 Pad Grid: 11.25 Degrees Each

The 81 pad grid, used for any house, factory, business or office, has 32 devtas (the 32 digpal) seated around its outer ring in the pishach bhoomi. One round covers 360 degrees, so each outer pad covers 360 divided by 32, that is 11.25 degrees, and half a pad 5.625 degrees.

Principle

Sixteen Zones of 22.5 Degrees and the Three Parts of Each Corner

Directions fall at every 90 degrees, the corner directions (vidisha) at 45 degrees and the zones at every 22.5 degrees, giving 16 zones. Each corner has three parts with different properties, for example Nairitya splits into dakshini nairitya (SSW), nairitya (SW) and paschimi nairitya (WSW).

Principle

North-East Zone: Clarity of Mind and the Place of Worship

About two hours before sunrise the sun sends ultraviolet rays into the North-East, which bring the greatest alertness to the neurons and glial cells of the brain. This pure energy suits the pure soul, so the North-East is the zone of clarity of mind and the place for worship.
