Main Door and Window Rules: Two Shutters, Inward Opening, Even Count

The main door should have two shutters opening inward and a height twice its width; doors and windows should be even in number, and window shutters should open outward.

What it does

Keeps energy and wealth flowing into the house and negativity flowing out.

Where

Main door and windows of the house

How to do it

  1. 1Keep the main door height at least double its width (for 3 ft width, at least 6 ft height), or follow the door aay.
  2. 2Make the main door with two shutters that open inward.
  3. 3Keep the number of doors and windows even, such as 8, 12, 14, 16, 18, 22, 24, 26 or 28, never a multiple of ten such as 10, 20 or 30.
  4. 4Make window shutters open outward.
  5. 5Keep more windows rather than fewer.

Cautions

  • A door opening outward slowly drains money, wealth and the energy of the house.
  • A mesh or safety door opening outward is fine; the inner wooden door counts as the main door.

Explanation and notes

The two shutters stand for ida nadi (female) and pingala nadi (male). Windows are the children of the house; old houses had six to eight windows. The door brings energy in, and the window throws out the negativity created inside, which is why window shutters open outward.

House Facing a Cremation Ground (Shamshan)

A house whose front faces a cremation ground does not give results even with correct facing and a correct door; most of the hard work drains away.
