Vedic vastu matches the facing of the main door to the rashi of the male house owner. Even in a suitable direction, the door must still stand on a good pada.

Explanation and notes
A swagrahi or exalted planet gives good results even if malefic, just as a feared man sitting at home with his children does them no harm. A strong (exalted or swagrahi) planet in a kendra gives its full positive result. Shukla paksha runs from Ekam to Purnima and Krishna paksha from Ekam to Amavasya. Signs used in class: Sun exalted in 1, own sign 5, debilitated in 7; Moon exalted in 2, own sign 4, debilitated in 8; Mars own signs 1 and 8, exalted in 10, debilitated in 4; Mercury own signs 3 and 6, exalted in 6, debilitated in 12; Jupiter own signs 9 and 12, exalted in 4, debilitated in 10; Venus own signs 2 and 7, exalted in 12; Saturn own signs 10 and 11, exalted in 7, debilitated in 1; Rahu exalted in 3 (also 2) and Ketu in 9. Rahu and Ketu are always exalted or debilitated together.
Interior colours are selected in three ways: from the kundali (the planets ruling education, business, wealth and luck), from the element of the zone (its own colour or a friendly element colour), and from the work done in the space.
Red represents Mars and the Surya swar; it creates heat, fire and zeal in the body, so it is used wherever heavy physical work must be done fast.
Blue is a natural cooling and antiseptic colour that brings devotion, truth and respect, keeps body temperature balanced, and gives mental peace and spiritual growth.
Green, the colour of the air element, is antiseptic; it removes swelling, brings happiness, reduces negativity and detoxes the body.
Slightly warmed banyan leaves tied over a swollen part of the body remove the swelling; the healing comes from the natural green colour of the leaf.
Each trade has a supporting colour: yellow for every business, red for jewellery, chemicals, sweets and fire-related work, white for education, cloth and stationery, and green for health; black and grey only in small amounts.
Each direction has colours that suit it and colours to avoid, based on the friendship and enmity of the planets ruling the zones.
Oil-based paint contains lead that is released into the air and breathed in, causing cough, cold, eye irritation and disease; water-based paint should be used instead.
