When a person with a debilitated Shani (Saturn) builds, small pieces of shami wood are placed in all four corners first and the iron (steel) is laid on top of them.
All four corners of the structure, beneath the iron or steel
A bell or ghanta made of ashtadhatu contains the metals of all nine planets, so ringing it spreads vibrations through the whole house and pacifies the planets.
Inside the house, where its sound reaches every room
When Mercury is exalted (sitting with sign 6) anywhere in the chart, pictures of birds, a jungle or bamboo forest, children's toys or a parrot-maina figure in the North zones boost business.
A person with Gaj Kesari yoga should put up a photo of God, or of a Guru giving blessings, in the North, North-East, North-North-East or East to receive the full fruit of the yoga.
Venus (the wife) and the Moon (the mother) together form Grah Klesh yoga, which leaves the men of the house stressed between the two; a photo of fully bloomed flowers in the East side calms the home.
When the Moon is exalted (sign 2) or swagrahi (sign 4), a painting of a calm river or lake in the North-West, North-North-West or North brings a good flow of liquid money.
When Venus is exalted (sign 12) or swagrahi (signs 2 or 7), a painting of a cow or bull in the South-East, the zone of Venus, brings luxury, money and comforts.
Mars with Rahu forms Angarak yoga, the accident yoga, and with the Moon added it also troubles the mind; a painting of an elephant with raised trunk bathing in water in the South-West or South protects against it.
When Mercury and Jupiter sit together and both are benefic, a painting of a lion (babbar sher) in the North, North-East or East-North-East gives the power to rule and dominance in one's field.
Gaj Kesari yoga (Jupiter with the Moon, neither debilitated, in a kendra or trikona) is the finest raj yoga; having such a person install the mangal kalash of a home or business makes it prosper manifold.
When Jupiter and Venus are together and benefic, a photo of God riding a chariot in procession (rath yatra) in the North-East brings all-round success.
When the Sun is exalted (sign 1) or swagrahi (sign 5) and sits in a kendra, a rising sun picture or a brass sun in the East brings name, fame and success in politics.
When benefic Jupiter and Venus sit together, a painting of running horses in an odd number, or of a cow or bull, in the East or South-East brings fame, happiness and sound judgement.
When Mercury sits with the Moon, Jupiter or Mars, a happy family photo full of love in the North, North-North-East or South-East keeps love alive and grows business.
A defect in the South means a damaged Mars; strengthening Mars with stone cladding, stone flooring, stone statues and red coral or hematite nullifies the South defect.
Mercury and the Moon together promise a luxurious house; a sugarcane painting in the North or North-East supports the comforts of home and garden this combination gives.
When Saturn is exalted (sign 7) or swagrahi (signs 10 or 11), especially as a kendra lord sitting in a kendra, a painting of fish swimming in water in the West grows business and brings justice.
A person with a weak Mars in the chart almost always has a South dosh at home. Stone cladding with projecting stones on the South wall, stone showpieces in the South and better relations with brothers and friends strengthen Mars and the South.
When all planets sit in enemy signs, the strongest planet, Jupiter, is strengthened through dharma, devotion, mantra jaap, sadhana and a kalash in the North-East, so that the hostile planets slowly turn friendly.
A signature can pass or cancel a proposal, a cheque or a property deal, so the pen used for signing is chosen by the rashi of the name you sign with: the cap or body colour and the ink colour are matched to that rashi. Only three inks are used for the 12 rashis: red, blue and green.
When the lord whose colour you need is debilitated, trace the chain of sign lords to the planet that cancels the debility and use its colour instead, creating a neech bhang raj yoga yourself.
Planets cannot be pulled down, but placing the metal, wood, colours and items representing the planet exalted in your kundli at that planet's own location in the house captures its energy.
The Moon (white) and Jupiter (golden yellow) together form the Gaj Kesari yoga; an interior with white walls and golden yellow carvings recreates this yoga in the home.
The ishaan is the place of Jupiter and water belongs to the Moon, so a kalash filled with water in the North-East creates Gajkesari yoga (Moon with Jupiter) in the home.
A message painting designed by the teacher: a kalash is established in the ishaan corner, the sun rises behind it, the lotus blooms and energy spreads, raising positive energy in the whole house. It is painted on a glass partition between North and East, or on cloth.
A person's element comes from the janma rashi, the rashi number written with the Moon (Cha) in the kundali. Writing the 12 rashis in order under Fire, Earth, Air and Water gives each element three rashis.
Each of the four elements gives a typical temperament, walk, speech and complexion. Comparing a person's nature with the element of the janma rashi shows how far the person has changed their element.
When several people live in a house, whose horoscope decides the facing and the main door, and how long does a house affect the family?
The griha swami's (house owner's) horoscope is used; the method is taught in the astro Vastu classes. The effect of a house carries on for up to three generations.
This is a subject of astro vastu. Different items represent different planets; if a planet is very negative in your kundli and you keep the item that represents it, the negativity grows further. Which item suits which home, and with what, is covered in interior vastu.
Does a toilet in the North-East always cause cancer, and is every South-facing house bad?
No. If it did, the owners of five and seven star hotels, which commonly have toilets in the North-East, would suffer first, and every South-facing owner would be ruined. Vastu must be read together with the planets of the person, which are exalted and which debilitated, instead of blindly applying one rule to everyone.
How far does the influence of a devta reach beyond its own pad?
As in a kundli, where Jupiter blesses whatever it aspects with full drishti, a devta also aspects the devta opposite it; Surya, for example, balances Varun. If you cannot balance a devta directly, balance the devta whose full drishti falls on it, and its gaze will set it right.
In the case where all four family members had a weak Sun, why would four separate kundlis show the same pattern?
Members of one family almost always have nearly the same planetary placements; there is a symmetry among their charts, and that is why they are born into the same family. In that case the Sun was badly placed in all four charts, so the East-facing house harmed the whole family.
The kundli chart was shown with directions. How are those directions used, and what can a kundli tell about a house?
Go by the houses, not the numbers written in them: the top house is the 1st house (East) and the 4th house is North. If the planets on the North side are strong, the North direction is very good for the person. A kundli can even reveal where a person's house is, where its door is, how many windows it has and where a nearby river, pond or temple lies, so a map of the house can be drawn without seeing it.
If a house has four members, whose kundli should be used for its vastu?
Primarily the grih swami's, the person whose money is going into the house, because the house affects the owner and his next three generations; do not go by the name the property is registered in, such as a daughter. The facing and main door are chosen from the grih swami's chart, for example North if his Mercury is exalted or his North-side planets are strong. Where a child sleeps or studies is decided from the child's own chart: if the child's Mercury is weak, seat him in the South instead of the North, following the 180-degree rule for a weak planet.
If one family member has a planet exalted and another has it debilitated, should that planet's items be kept in the interior?
Decide room by room. In your own bedroom use the materials of your exalted planet and not of your debilitated one; your daughter's bedroom is designed from her kundli. The house facing and common areas such as the drawing room and kitchen are decided from the grih swami's kundli. Many people make the master bedroom in the South-West by default, which is wrong when Rahu is debilitated: such people suffered there and got very good results after moving to another direction.
If a person's date of birth is not known correctly and no kundli can be made, how are their land and house planned?
The planets are still there even if the kundli is lost. A perfect kundli can be made from the thumb through Bhrigu Samhita, and Nadi astrologers also prepare it. A Prashna kundli can be cast, and Samudrik shastra (reading the body) also shows which planets are exalted or debilitated. Get this worked out by an astrologer.
In the example of the Sun in the 8th house, would an East entrance have suited if the Sun had been retrograde?
Possibly, but then its degree and the aspects on it, such as a benefic planet's aspect, would have to be checked. A house is built only once, so such a risk should not be taken. Retrograde (vakri) planets are taught later in the course.
