Interior by Planets: Colours, Stones, Pictures, Plants, Woods, Clocks and Quartz Balls
Interior vastu taught planet by planet: for the ruling planet of each direction (Sun in the East, Moon in the North-West, Mars in the South, Jupiter in the North-East, Mercury in the North, Saturn in the West, Rahu-Ketu in the South-West and Venus in the South-East) the class gives the colours, stones and metals, pictures and objects, and indoor and outdoor plants that strengthen the zone. It opens with reading a birth chart to find the best direction and colours for a person, and closes with woods for furniture and beds, trees to keep away from the home, clock placement and direction-wise quartz balls. A long Q&A covers quartz, sandalwood and asan wood in beds, tulsi and peace lily as negativity indicators, Gajkesari yoga, direction cuts and the shami tree. The underlying lesson is that every item belongs to a planet, so planetary friendship and enmity decide where it goes and let students derive remedies themselves.
1The direction holding exalted or the most benefic planets in the birth chart is the best one for house facing, bedroom and work
2Each direction is decorated with the colours, stones, pictures and plants of its planet: Sun East, Moon North-West, Mars South, Jupiter North-East, Mercury North, Saturn West, Rahu-Ketu South-West, Venus South-East
3Items of friend planets may share a zone; items of enemy planets must be kept apart
4Never hang mountain pictures in the East; mountains and a Nandi suit the South and South-West
5A water-filled kalash in the ishaan forms Gajkesari yoga; tulsi belongs in the ishaan and brahmasthan
6Flowering plants in the North and a sturdy, decorated staircase strengthen Mercury and business
7Shami grows only outdoors in the West; four energised shami pieces at the plot corners remove land doshas
8No fruit trees indoors and no plants in the bedroom; peepal, banyan, tamarind and pakad stay away from the house
9Teak with a little sandalwood suits furniture; never use tendu, and never sleep on a mango wood bed
10Hang clocks only on the North wall, keep a running clock in the safe and never keep stopped clocks
11Quartz balls of at least 3 inches, coloured by direction, act as energy generators
12Avoid the colours and items of a debilitated planet; a house can form its own harmful chart through showpieces
When the East is closed by a raised wall or a heavy structure, items that capture the Sun energy are placed in the East so that the Sun still rises in the home.
Giloy, an ayurvedic creeper, grown in the East lets the morning sunrays pass through it into the rooms, which improves the immunity of the residents even if they do not consume it.
A full Moon painting in the North-West strengthens the zone, and an actual photograph of the Sharad Purnima Moon works far more powerfully than an artificial image.
A person with a weak Mars in the chart almost always has a South dosh at home. Stone cladding with projecting stones on the South wall, stone showpieces in the South and better relations with brothers and friends strengthen Mars and the South.
When a tree stands in a wrong place, such as a tall mango tree in the North-East, and cannot be removed, tulsi plants around it and energy-capturing plants in the North reduce the harm.
Around the wrongly placed tree; the North for a tall North-East tree
Vedic vastu describes that a water body in the West, the place of Varun, with one lotus blooming in it reduces all the vastu doshas of the house. It must be raised above the ground, never dug.
Four energised pieces of shami wood, each 11 angul long and tied with raksha sutra, buried at the four corners of a plot in an auspicious muhurta remove the vastu doshas and negativity of the land and guard it.
A solid cube-shaped platform (chabutra) built in the South-West corner balances the earth element and Rahu-Ketu, which in turn balances the entire house.
A pink or light pink quartz ball kept on a pedestal in the South-East raises the power of Venus for those whose marriage is not happening or whose work is stuck.
If a direction of the house is cut, quartz suited to that direction is put into the ground there to extend it, or kept in a glass bowl when that is not possible.
For a North-East cut, for example with an exalted Ketu whose diagonal points to the North-East, a kalash is installed in the North-East with mirrors fixed all around it.
When a bed is made of unsuitable wood or one has to sleep in a wrong zone, a small piece of sandalwood touching the wood of the bed, or asan wood under its four legs, corrects it.
If one of these four trees already stands at the house, a platform is built around it and raksha sutra is tied around it so that the deities stay in the tree and do not come out to trouble the family.
When all planets sit in enemy signs, the strongest planet, Jupiter, is strengthened through dharma, devotion, mantra jaap, sadhana and a kalash in the North-East, so that the hostile planets slowly turn friendly.
A peepal that sprouts by itself in the house is moved while still small: the deity in it is requested to move, an offering is made, cow urine is poured at the roots and it is replanted in a forest.
Where the peepal has sprouted; replant in a forest
The ishaan is the place of Jupiter and water belongs to the Moon, so a kalash filled with water in the North-East creates Gajkesari yoga (Moon with Jupiter) in the home.
Quartz balls capture and generate energy and raise the energy of a zone; each direction takes its own colour, and a ball should be at least 3 inches in diameter.
The birth chart shows which direction is strong for a person: the direction holding exalted planets, or else the most benefic planets, is the one to face, sleep and work in. Planet colours from the chart guide health, business and decoration choices.
The favourable direction: house facing, bedroom, work chamber
Plants are the most sensitive testers of home energy: tulsi and white hibiscus react at once to negativity, and a tulsi that keeps drying or a peace lily that will not grow shows negativity that has to be cleared.
Wherever these plants are kept, especially beside the tulsi
The East belongs to the Sun. Its interior uses light orange, greens, pink, yellow and ivory white, sandstone, copper or gold-polished showpieces, sunrise pictures and sun-loving plants.
Trees and plants capture about 90 percent of the solar energy that reaches the earth and give it out through the day, so every home needs indoor plants in galleries and around the living areas. Fruit-bearing trees must stay outside, and no plant goes in the bedroom.
Galleries and living areas inside; fruit trees in the outer garden
The North-West is the seat of the Moon and of Vayu (air). Its interior uses white and ivory, pearls, white stone and a little white marble, pictures of water creatures and the full Moon, and moon-loving plants.
The coconut tree holds all five elements and captures the most cosmic and underground energy, drawing it into the home. It is the only tall tree allowed in the North-East and can be planted in any direction.
The South belongs to Mars. Its interior uses a small share of red with pink, orange, ivory and light green, copper, coral, ruby and red quartz, paintings of high mountains, a red horse or red elephant, a rock garden and Mars plants.
The North-East is the seat of Jupiter. Its interior uses ivory and white with golden yellow, gold or gold-polished artifacts, topaz or citrine, auspicious symbols such as Ashtamangal, Nandyavart and the mangal kalash, and white or yellow flowering plants.
Tulsi senses negative energy entering the home and drives it away, and the air rising from it cleans the whole house, so every home must have one, especially in the North-East and the brahmasthan.
The North belongs to Mercury. Its interior uses green with blue, ivory and white, Kota stone, green marble or limestone, emerald-family minerals, flowers and fragrance, Kuber and water pictures, a bandanwar, clay artifacts and a small library.
Every item, colour and activity belongs to a planet, so its items can go in the zone of that planet or of a friend planet but must be kept apart from enemy planets. Working through these combinations lets you design your own remedies.
The West is the zone of Saturn and the place of Varun. Its interior uses light blue with white or ivory, black stone, blue sapphire, amethyst and iron, a tortoise, floodlights, bells and camel figures, and plants such as lotus and raatrani.
The shami represents Saturn and works powerfully when planted in a garden in the West, but it is the favourite tree of spirits, so it must never be grown inside the house or close to it.
The South-West is the zone of Rahu-Ketu. Its interior uses golden yellow, white or ivory, black stone, blue sapphire, amethyst and iron, a Nandi, awards and certificates, mountain and village sceneries, and tall outdoor trees.
South-West; tall trees outdoors in the South and South-West
The South-East belongs to Venus. Its interior uses pink and light green, amethyst or blue sapphire, a pyramid and a sword for fire, kitchen-garden sceneries, fine curtains, decoration, toys and shining items, and Venus plants.
South-East; curtains and decor throughout the home
Teak is the best furniture wood, ideally with a little sandalwood mixed in and joined with wooden pegs or copper or brass nails. Asan wood drives away negativity and disease, while tendu must never be used and mango must never be used for a bed.
Peepal, banyan, tamarind and pakad must never stand inside the house premises, and date palm, pomegranate, banana and ber also harm the household. A tree whose shadow falls on the house beyond the first and last prahar of the day causes trouble.
A clock represents Mercury, so it is hung on the North wall; on other walls it delays work. Every home needs working clocks, never stopped ones, and a small running clock in the safe increases the effect of Mercury.
The left side is the chandra nadi, used for stable and timely work, and the left hand represents the North, where Mercury, the planet of clocks, lives; so the watch is worn on the left hand.
Sleep is an activity of Saturn; Saturn is a friend of Rahu-Ketu, who rule the South-West, and the South is the seat of Yama, so sleeping in the South-West or South is recommended, while sleeping in the East is not.
Before doing an interior, get the birth chart analysed: heavy use of the colours, materials or showpieces of a debilitated (neech) planet becomes the biggest trouble, and items unknowingly put in a wrong zone can suddenly bring unrest, disease and failure.
The belief that the North-West, West or South-West must have no greenery is wrong: plants can go in every direction, and a vastu expert should never get a tree cut but should plant auspicious trees beside it instead.

Questions asked in this session
Why is a wrist watch worn on the left hand?
The left side is the chandra nadi and the right side the surya nadi. The surya nadi is for fierce or aggressive work, while timely and stable work belongs to the chandra nadi: shilanyas and griha pravesh are done in the chandra nadi at a fixed muhurta, so the watch, which keeps you on time, goes on the left. Also, in the vastu of the human body the left hand represents the North, where Mercury lives and where the clock is hung.
Why is sleeping recommended in the South-West or the South?
Sleep is an activity of Saturn, and Saturn is a friend of Rahu-Ketu, who rule the South-West. The South is the seat of Yama, before whom no one prevails. Sun and Saturn are enemies, so sleeping in the East brings husband-wife quarrels; only a king-like person such as a politician or minister can sleep there. Applying this friend-enemy logic of the planets to every activity lets you derive remedies yourself.
Is the blue quartz ball an amethyst or a blue chalcedony?
It is simply quartz. Quartz is basically colourless; minerals lying next to it leach in and give it colour, but its composition (SiO2) does not change.
Yes, quartz can be hung, just as chandeliers are hung. But do not hang the chandeliers sold in the market today, because they are mixed with lead, which is harmful.
Can these planet artifacts be used even when the birth chart shows no defect?
Yes. Without a dosh they simply add energy. Nobody would refuse if God offered an exalted Jupiter, Mars or Saturn in their chart, and decorating with the items that represent such planets raises energy in the same way. Energy never becomes so much that it causes harm; how the gain is used is the person's own responsibility.
Should golden yellow and white be used only in the North-East, or can the whole house use this combination?
The whole house can use it. The teacher has done a complete home interior in white and golden yellow, creating Gajkesari yoga throughout. When one colour combination is used in every direction, no dosh is counted.
How do we choose a direction when no planet in the chart is exalted and several planets sit in one direction?
First choose the direction of exalted planets. If none are exalted, go towards the direction where the benefic planets sit: Venus, Mercury, Moon and Jupiter are benefic, while Rahu, Ketu, Saturn, Sun and Mars are malefic. Then use the interior items, seed mantras, artifacts, statues, trees, colours and symbols, to strengthen the planets that are not exalted.
A chabutra is a solid structure built as a cube, with equal length, width and height. There are 24 kinds for different purposes; the general one comes from swar vigyan and balances the five elements of the house. It stands for the earth element, which belongs to the South-West, and once the earth element is balanced it balances all the others more or less.
Yes. Asan wood is cheap, unlike sandalwood, and a whole bed can be made from it. If you have to sleep in a wrong zone, put asan wood under all four legs of the bed.
What should be done when a peepal sprouts on its own in the house?
While it is still small, offer it one almond or one fruit and request: O tree deity, this place is not suitable for you, I want to take you elsewhere. Pour cow urine at its roots, take it out with the roots, carry it with the fruit and plant it in a forest. Make a protective shield (suraksha kavach) for yourself first.
Yes. They mostly carry natural quartz of different colours, and they are far better than plastic decor, so they can be kept as showpieces in the interior.
A peace lily was planted twice at home and did not survive. Is there a dosh?
Yes. Plants are the most sensitive testers and signal earthquakes and accidents in a house in advance. White hibiscus and tulsi react at once to negativity, and a failing peace lily shows negativity in the house. Remove the negativity and the peace lily will start growing by itself.
Should we follow the direction a planet rules or its position in the chart, for example an exalted Sun sitting in the West?
Follow the direction the planet rules: if the Sun is exalted, select the East even though it sits in the West of the chart. Also see where most benefic planets sit; two, three or even four directions can be favourable for one person.
With an exalted Moon in Taurus together with Jupiter, how can the Gajkesari yoga be made fruitful?
The house it falls in matters: a Gajkesari yoga in the 8th or 12th house does not give results and in the 6th it gives less. To make it fruitful, create the Gajkesari combination in the home through the interior, such as a water-filled kalash and white flowers in the North-East.
If Mars as the 10th lord (karmesh) is debilitated, should red be avoided in the logo?
Yes. A debilitated karmesh does not support you, so avoid its colour in the business and the logo, and take the colour of the 11th lord (labhesh) instead.
A mango tree inside the boundary in the North-East is growing taller than the house. What effect will it have?
Only one tall tree is allowed in the North-East, the coconut, which draws cosmic energy from above and passes it down. No other tall tree should stand there. If one already exists and cannot be cut, plant energy-capturing plants such as tulsi in the North and plant tulsi all around the tree.
Can a photo of Sammed Shikharji be put in the bedroom?
Venus and Jupiter are never friends. Sleep belongs to Saturn and the comforts of the bedroom to Venus, so a Jupiter picture like this suits the bedroom only if you observe celibacy (brahmacharya) and restraint.
What should be done if all the planets are in enemy signs?
It shows disturbed karma from a past life, and the chart is a graph of karma, so do good deeds now. Strengthen Jupiter, the most powerful planet, through dharma, spirituality, devotion, mantra jaap and sadhana, and keep a kalash in the North-East; the enemy planets slowly start turning friendly.
If Saturn is debilitated, can a shami plant be grown?
No; why invite spirits? One person planted two shami trees in the West of his home believing it would help, faced three to four months of trouble and returned them to the gardener. Shami should not be grown at home.
Is Gajkesari yoga formed when a debilitated Moon is with Jupiter?
Gajkesari yoga forms when the Moon and Jupiter are together or opposite each other, but with a debilitated Moon its prosperity does not fully arrive, like a child born in a wealthy home who still does not progress much.
Can plants be kept in the West, North-West and South-West?
Certainly. Drop the idea that there should be no greenery in the North-West or South-West; gardens and resorts everywhere have greenery on all sides. A vastu expert should never get a tree cut, because its dosh falls on him; plant auspicious trees near it instead.
What should be done when Ketu is exalted in the 2nd house and the house has a North-East cut?
Rahu-Ketu belong to the South-West, and the diagonal from there is the North-East. Put a mirror at the cut, or install a kalash in the North-East and fix mirrors all around the kalash.
It is not recommended. Feng shui promoted it heavily, but bamboo is not an auspicious tree; its wood is what carries the dead. Feng shui also had the swastik printed on doormats, so that a symbol equal to God gets trampled by footwear.
Can tulsi be kept inside the house, and why does it keep drying?
Yes, tulsi can be kept inside if it gets proper air and light. If it dries again and again, the house has negativity; light a cow-ghee diya near it. Tulsi is said to produce the most oxygen, and a ghee lamp beside it to generate so much oxygen that the pair could serve like an oxygen cylinder in an emergency.
If a direction is cut, can quartz suited to that direction be put there?
Yes. For a North-East cut, quartz can be put into the ground there to extend that direction; if that is not possible, keep it in a glass bowl at that spot.
What is the difference between a birth chart and a name chart?
The birth chart is accurate; the name chart is only an estimate. Billions of people are divided among just 12 signs, and results depend on where each planet sits and with whom, which only the birth chart shows.
If the Sun is exalted in the 10th house, should the South also be improved, or should Sun items go only in the East?
Sun items go in the East, but they can also go in the directions of the friends of the Sun; one colour or one showpiece is not restricted to one place. That is why the colour combinations of friend planets were given.
Why is the banana tree prohibited when it belongs to Jupiter?
No fruit-bearing tree is meant to be an indoor plant. If there is a garden, plant it there, not inside the house; otherwise fruit trees bring trouble for the children, as Varahamihira says.
Why can a coconut tree be planted even in the North-East, where height is not allowed?
The coconut holds all five elements and captures the most cosmic energy as well as underground energy, passing it into the home without disturbing anything. That is why it can be planted in every direction, and why South India follows the custom of one coconut tree for every house.
The mango tree. It is one of the tall outdoor trees for the South-West, and being very pure its leaves make the bandanwar for all auspicious functions.
