Choosing and Preparing a Dowsing Pendulum

Pendulums are metallic (copper, silver, steel, brass) or non-metallic (quartz and its variety amethyst); a genuine, heavy pendulum is cleaned in salt water, purified with fragrant dhoop and given the intention to work with you before any use.

How to do it

  1. 1Choose a heavy pendulum, metallic or of genuine quartz
  2. 2Test quartz: it feels cold, breaks with a conchoidal (shell-like) fracture, has hardness 7 and blunts the edge of a knife
  3. 3Soak the pendulum in a salt water solution, then clean it
  4. 4Purify it in the smoke of fragrant dhoop
  5. 5Give it your intention (bhavna) that it is to work with you

Cautions

  • Many pendulums sold as quartz are glass; genuine quartz is hard to find
  • A heavy pendulum is better, because a light one moves with any shake of the hand

Explanation and notes

Brass can be used, as it contains copper. A rudraksha can also serve as a pendulum.
