Finding Your Element from the Moon Sign (Janma Rashi)

A person's element comes from the janma rashi, the rashi number written with the Moon (Cha) in the kundali. Writing the 12 rashis in order under Fire, Earth, Air and Water gives each element three rashis.

What it does

Identifies the occupant's element so the interior can use friendly colours and artifacts.

  • Kundali (birth chart) of the person

How to do it

  1. 1Open the kundali and find the number written next to the Moon (Cha); do not use the lagna number
  2. 2Convert the number to the rashi: 1 Mesh, 2 Vrishabh, 3 Mithun, 4 Kark, 5 Simha, 6 Kanya, 7 Tula, 8 Vrishchik, 9 Dhanu, 10 Makar, 11 Kumbh, 12 Meen
  3. 3Write four columns: Fire, Earth, Air, Water
  4. 4Write the rashis in order across the columns: Mesh, Vrishabh, Mithun, Kark; then Simha, Kanya, Tula, Vrishchik; then Dhanu, Makar, Kumbh, Meen
  5. 5Read the element: Fire = Mesh, Simha, Dhanu; Earth = Vrishabh, Kanya, Makar; Air = Mithun, Tula, Kumbh; Water = Kark, Vrishchik, Meen

Cautions

  • Read the rashi from the Moon, not from the number in the lagna (first) house

Explanation and notes

Example: Moon with 12 means Meen rashi (water); Moon with 11 means Kumbh (air). The teacher calls finding the element the core of vastu: every direction and sub-direction hides an element, and without knowing it with its friends and enemies, interior work cannot be done. Homework given: learn the 12 rashis, their lords and their exaltation and debilitation.
