Element Friendship, Rashi Elements and the 16 Zones for Interior Planning
Defines interior vastu as emotions and actions controlled by the interior and applies the chitra se chitta principle to pictures, photos and statues. Teaches the friendship and enmity of the four human elements, how to find a person's element from the Moon sign and temperament, and how element matching guides interiors, marriage and partnerships. Shows how to mark the 16 zones and 32 devta pads on a house plan with an 81-pad protractor, then walks through all 16 zones with what to build, what to avoid and the effects. A long Q&A covers shoe racks, tijori facing, drainage, temples, toilets, kundali checks for bedrooms and balancing fixed flats with element symbols.
1Interior vastu means emotions and actions controlled by the interior: pictures change the mind (chitra se chitta)
2Plan an interior from the goal, the owner's kundali, the current flow and planet combinations; never recreate harmful yogas like Jwalamukhi (Mars with Sun) through artifacts
3Use full-length family photos and full-body statues; avoid close-ups, cut figures and war or Mahabharata paintings
4Water and earth are friends, fire and air are friends; water-fire and earth-air are enemies; water-air and earth-fire are neutral friends
5Find the element from the rashi number written with the Moon: Fire = Mesh, Simha, Dhanu; Earth = Vrishabh, Kanya, Makar; Air = Mithun, Tula, Kumbh; Water = Kark, Vrishchik, Meen
6Use colours and artifacts of the occupant's own or friend element and keep out those of the enemy element
7Element matching decides marriage compatibility and good business partnerships
8Vedic element zones: water NNE to East, fire East to South, earth South to West, air West to North, space in the Brahmasthan
9Mark zones with an 81-pad protractor: 32 devtas of 11.25 degrees each, with N5, E5, S5 and W5 on the exact cardinal points
10Each of the 16 zones has its own nature, from East (association) and SE (cash flow) to W (gain and profit), NNE (health) and NE (clarity)
11Toilets go in SSW or WNW, in NW only with ventilation, in ESE only in emergency with a south-facing seat, never in NE
12Overhead tank in West to NW, never SW or SE; lift pits are allowed only up to SE
13Check Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn and Rahu-Ketu before assigning bedroom zones
14When a structure cannot change, balance the element with its shapes, symbols, materials and artifacts
For a person who gets angry often, the room is done up only with anger-controlling, mind-calming portraits, photos, idols, artifacts, symbols and colour combinations.
Varun and Pushpadant in the West fulfil the wishes of the mind. Keep your written application or wish in the West with a special swastik, a mirror, a pyramid, navratna and five-element symbols, and place it at the three sandhya times.
Shoes bring outside energy, so the shoe rack stays near the entrance: on the NW side of a north-facing entrance and on the ESE side of an east-facing entrance. Where neither is possible, make the rack of wood and place muscovite (abhrak) under it.
Near the main entrance: NW side of a north-facing door, ESE side of an east-facing door
Keep court case files, cheque book, cash book and the diary of money owed to you in the NE, the zone of clarity, so that they get energy and speed. The NE also charges any symbol or article whose power you want to increase.
Place a protractor on the house plan aligned to North, adjusting for any tilt, and mark the 4 directions, the 4 sub-directions at 45 degrees and 8 further sub-directions at 22.5 degrees. For a house use the 81-pad layout, in which the 32 outer devtas each cover 11.25 degrees and N5, E5, S5 and W5 fall exactly on the cardinal points.
A person's element comes from the janma rashi, the rashi number written with the Moon (Cha) in the kundali. Writing the 12 rashis in order under Fire, Earth, Air and Water gives each element three rashis.
Each of the four elements gives a typical temperament, walk, speech and complexion. Comparing a person's nature with the element of the janma rashi shows how far the person has changed their element.
Before any interior, fix the goal of the space, study the owner's kundali, check the current (energy) flow and base every arrangement, colour and artifact on planet combinations. Harmful yogas of the kundali must never be recreated with artifacts, while good yogas should be built.
Interior vastu is emotion and action controlled by the interior: what the eye sees daily at home changes the mind. Pictures of God and loving family scenes bring good thoughts, while vulgar, violent or sorrowful images change emotions at once.
Family photos at home should show the whole family complete from head to feet, with no hand or foot cut, and statues or idols should show the full body. Close-up face photos and cut or bust figures bring trouble.
Family photos, statues and idols anywhere in the house
Everyone is made of the five elements; a person likes the colour of their own element or of its friend element, and the exact shade they like matches the percentage of that element within them.
Wall colours and furnishings of the person's own rooms
Humans are made of four working elements, water, earth, fire and air; nobody belongs to the space element alone. Water and earth are friends, fire and air are friends, water and fire are enemies, earth and air are enemies, while water-air and earth-fire are sam-mitra (neutral friends).
All rooms, according to the element of the occupant
The element friendship chart is also the basis of compatibility: two people of the same element or of friendly elements (water with earth, fire with air) keep a heart-to-heart bond. Compare the rashi elements of both before a marriage, partnership or close friendship.
The janma rashi (Moon sign) runs the whole life and is used for stable works such as house construction muhurta and marriage, while the rashi of the name in use can be used for business records. Naming a child by the janma rashi keeps the person's element unchanged.
In Vedic vastu the water element runs from NNE through NE to East, fire from East to about South, earth from South to before West, and air from West to before North. The space element sits in the Brahmasthan.
Water: NNE, NE and ENE up to East. Fire: East to South. Earth: South to West. Air: West to North. Space: Brahmasthan (centre).
East is the Sun's direction that starts creation and connects people socially, politically and religiously, so it is the zone of association and politics. Keep it open and clean; obstructing the Sun here brings trouble to the house owner.
From 7:30 to 9 am the Sun sits in ESE and its rays churn (manthan), making it the zone of analysis, also called the anxiety zone. It suits wash areas, septic tanks, guest rooms, lifts and rooms of small children or research scholars, but not adult bedrooms, tijori or business counters.
SE is pure Agneya: from 9 am to 12 noon the young Sun's fire is strong enough to cook food, so this is the ideal kitchen zone and the zone of cash flow. Water, mirrors and money storage go wrong here.
In SSE the Sun's fire moves toward its old stage and fills the place with power, confidence and energy. Everything allowed in the SE is allowed here, but no pits may be dug from this zone onward.
South belongs to Yam Maharaj, who gives rest, relaxation, name and fame; it is the ideal location for the bedroom. The South must be raised, closed and heavy so that the fierce fire energy arriving there is blocked.
In SSW the Sun's energy is burnt out and its composition destroyed, so this is the zone of expenditure and wastage, where waste activities belong. It is the main zone for a toilet, dustbin and storage of useless goods.
From about 4 to 4:30 pm the Sun reaches SW and the energy begins to cool and stabilise the mind; it strengthens relationships and skills, motivates hard work and gives stability to every work. It suits bedroom, drawing room, tijori and heavy items, subject to Rahu-Ketu checks.
From 4:30 pm until sunset the Sun's rays turn cool and soothe the brain's neurons and glial cells, so WSW is the education zone and is very good for studying children. Most activities are allowed, but no fire, toilet or main door.
West is pure and sacred: goddesses live here, it is Shani's place, and Varun devta, the wealthiest devta, resides here with Pushpadant, so it is the zone of gain and profit. It suits bedrooms, tijori, temple and overhead tank, but must never be dug, dirtied or kept low.
The Sun sets in the West but the effect falls on WNW, which brings tears, so Vedic vastu calls it the rudan kaksh (crying room); it is the zone of depression and low mood. It is the ideal place for a septic tank and suits waste and storage uses.
NW brings prana and fresh air and pushes stale air out, so cross ventilation is a must; the teacher calls it the gateway (get-away) zone. It is a natural fridge for storing grain and the Moon's place, which makes it the ideal zone for the overhead tank.
In NNW the influence of Kuber's North spreads sideways and attraction is strongest, so it is the zone of sex and attraction. It is the best bedroom for a newly married couple and suits display and dressing.
North is Kuber's treasury: Kuber promises to keep the store full but asks for hard work, giving opportunities for work and business, so it is the zone of opportunity and money. Keep the North light, low and open, with water and greenery.
The Sun's light arrives about 48 minutes before sunrise in NNE and NE, carrying the most vitamin D, B12 and Ayurvedic energy, so NNE is the zone of health and immunity. It suits rooms for the elderly and the sick, medicines, water and open space; only toilets and fire are forbidden.
The earth is tilted about 23 degrees toward the NE, so this corner receives the most energy; it is the zone of clarity. Keep it low and open, use it for water, study and worship, and keep here everything you want to charge or speed up.
In the last minutes before sunrise, cool fresh air comes from ENE and fills a person with joy, so it is the zone of recreation and fun. Everything allowed in the NE is allowed here, plus gym, meditation, play area, TV and home theatre.
Vedic vastu never put toilets inside the house; today they go where positive energy ends. SSW is the main toilet zone, WNW and a well-ventilated NW are acceptable, ESE only in an emergency with a south-facing seat, and a toilet in any energy zone such as the NE brings serious harm.
SSW first; then WNW or a ventilated NW; ESE only in an emergency
A lift belongs to the fire element; its pit may be dug in ESE and SE, but from SSE onward only a pitless lift is allowed. The lift zones named are ESE and, best of all, WNW and NW, then SE; SSE only pitless, NNW only in an emergency and never the North.
The overhead tank belongs in the NW, the Moon's place, or in Varun's West. Most people wrongly build it in the SW, which is dry Rahu-Ketu territory with very intense infrared.
In a house where any living being is killed or eaten, vastu never works. The teacher selects no place for wine, bars or meat and consults only after the family gives up meat and alcohol.
When a flat or house cannot be altered, interior vastu balances the disturbed element by placing that element's shapes, symbols, artifacts, idols, showpieces and materials in the zone. This nullifies the defect, just as a doctor's supplement corrects a deficiency.
On the exact diagonal where the head of Shikhi devta falls in the NE, no underground water tank or pit should be dug. Vedic vastu marks these Shishu Pishach points, where neither the shilanyas pit nor any water pit is made.
Diagonal points of the plot, especially in the North-East
The best place for a home temple is the West with the deities facing East, as in the great temples; SW and WSW also work, and a Saraswati temple suits WSW. Keep the shikhar small, never hang consecrated idols, and stand elephant figures on a solid base.
A bedroom zone is chosen by the occupant's planets: an exalted planet makes its zone favourable and a debilitated one makes it harmful. Key checks are Sun for East, Venus for SE, Mars for South, Rahu-Ketu for SW, Saturn for West, Moon for NW, Mercury for North and Jupiter for NE.
By examining the active swar and tatva at the moment a question is asked, win-loss questions can be answered for anyone, anywhere, without a kundali. The teacher answered a journalist's phone questions on four state election results this way.
Questions asked in this session
A client has an exalted Saturn and a debilitated Venus. Can the bedroom be made in the West?
Yes, it will be very good. With an exalted Saturn, make the bedroom in the West without hesitation; WSW or even SW can also be used, but when Saturn is exalted the West gives the best results.
You explained which vitamins and minerals the Sun gives in different zones. Will we learn which disease comes from which zone-wise deficiency?
Yes. Health is taught in detail in the diploma, including which zone supplies which vitamin and mineral. Nature gives these through the zones, but we fail to recognise them.
Besides exaltation, debilitation and degree, how do we judge whether a planet is good or bad, for example in the 6th or 8th house?
The 6th and 8th house rule has not been given yet. The full rules will be taught later using example kundalis of five students. For now judge by exaltation and debilitation; not every 8th-house placement is bad.
In my building the flat entrance faces an electric shaft just before the lift, the same on all 25 floors. What should be done?
Remedies for a lift or shaft in the wrong place are taught in the diploma. The same lift falls in a different zone for each flat, in the NE for some and the NW for others, so the remedy depends on the zone it falls in.
If the ideal placement of a room is not possible, is there an alternative?
Yes, move to the second, third and further options. As a professional, give the client a written list: the first option according to the kundali and element, then the second, third, fourth and fifth options. This is covered with kundalis in the diploma.
The entrance is between North and East and outside footwear brings outside energy. Where should the shoe rack go?
For a north-facing entrance, make the shoe rack toward the North-West; for an east-facing entrance, toward the East-South-East. If neither is possible, put muscovite (abhrak) under the rack wherever it stands and make it of wood, not metal, because bacteria run on metal, as corona showed.
There are many photos at home of ancestors, gods and family, plus statues. Where and how should they be placed?
All of them, photos of ancestors, gods and family and statues of deities, will be taught in detail later, including where each goes and which way it should face. Even the wider world is confused about which way ancestors' photos should face.
Does the tijori zone also apply inside a room, and which way should the tijori face?
Keep the tijori in the zone given for it and make it face North. A room in the SW, say 12 by 15 feet, is entirely SW, not only its corner; it has four walls, so keep the tijori against the South wall and it will face North.
The waste water of the whole house goes out from the North. Does that have an effect?
If it goes out deep underground there is no bad effect. If it runs about 9 inches below the surface, the effect is very large. At about one and a half feet deep there is no bad effect.
No. In practice even very tall chimneys in the SE showed no dosh, because the fire element always goes upward, as swar vigyan also shows; a rising chimney suits fire.
Where should the papers of a running court case be kept?
Keep the court case file in the North-East. The NE gives justice through transparency and clarity of mind, and some say it also brings a quick decision.
In a flat the structure cannot be changed. What can be done?
That is exactly what interior vastu is for: balance the element with its shapes, symbols, artifacts, idols, showpieces and materials to nullify the defect. For example, silver represents the Moon, so a silver artifact or a moon figure can be placed there. Like a doctor's supplement for a vitamin deficiency, the missing element is supplied; Ayurveda, allopathy, jyotish and vastu all run on the elements.
The floor from South to West should be raised to hold the energy. Should a balcony on that side also be raised?
Yes, a balcony on that side should not be low; keep it higher, though level also works. Another principle also works: raise the centre and slope the floor toward all directions, which makes kurma prishtha (tortoise-back) land.
In the vastu purush concept, should the NE diagonal be kept free of an underground water tank?
Correct, not on the exact diagonal where the head of Shikhi devta falls. Vedic vastu calculates the Shishu Pishach points, and no shilanyas pit, water pit or any other pit is dug on them; this is taught in the diploma.
My birth rashi is Mithun (air) and my name is from Simha (fire). Is that a problem?
No problem. When a name cannot be taken from the birth rashi, it can be taken from a friend rashi or friend element; air makes fire blaze, so they are friends.
The East of my house is completely closed by the neighbouring house. What is the solution?
This is taught in the coming classes: which symbols and pictures to use when a direction is blocked or has a dosh, and how to nullify it. This class covered only what should be where.
What is uttarayan, and does it reverse the zone energies described?
There are uttarayan and dakshinayan suns. When the Sun is uttarayan its composition is more energetic, so all auspicious ceremonies are done then; the dakshinayan Sun's composition is not as good. The zone layout does not become wrong; the Sun's composition at each angle of inclination explains which energy is needed for which work.
What is the difference between janma rashi and naam rashi, for example a birth rashi of Mithun with a name rashi of Kark?
The janma rashi runs the whole life, so all stable works such as the muhurta for building a house and marriage are done by it. If the name is not from the janma rashi, its rashi gives a different element, which can be used in business, because bank, GST and tax records carry that name.
How do I find my janma rashi? Is it the lagna number?
It is not the lagna number. In your kundali, the number written next to the Moon (Cha) is your janma rashi: 1 Mesh, 2 Vrishabh, 3 Mithun and so on up to 12 Meen. For example, a Moon with 12 means Meen rashi.
Yes, for small children below 12 years there is no problem; the belief that they will over-churn there is a myth. Adults' rooms should not be there, but for a PhD or research scholar the ESE is the best zone.
Does being manglik stop a person from sleeping in the South-West?
Manglik has nothing to do with it. It is considered only at marriage matching, when Mars sits in the 1st, 4th, 7th or 12th house, and Mars is power, not inauspicious. For the SW check whether Rahu-Ketu are debilitated, and for the South whether Mars is bad.
Where can a wine bar or meat be kept in the house?
No place is selected for wine, a bar or meat. In a house where any living being is killed or eaten vastu does not work, so the family is first asked to give these up before a vastu visit.
Basically the ESE is for a septic tank or any underground waste activity. A toilet there is only for an emergency, with the seat facing South; a seat facing East makes it like a North-East toilet.
Just as a kitchen can sometimes be in the East, it can be in the West: when Varun devta rains he also throws sparks of fire and lightning, so fire is not foreign to the West.
