Land Energy Testing for Land Selection: Omens, Soil Tests, Pit Water Test and Swar

Land energy carries about 70 percent of the weight when selecting a plot, flat or industrial land, more than slope, shape or surroundings. The class taught a large set of tests to read it: nimitta (omens) on the way to and at the site, prashna signs and the prashna chart, the five-element check, physical and chemical soil tests, the pit water movement test, the flag test, havan tests with the 45 Vastu Devtas, fertility tests, and simple flat tests with diyas, pulse and dhoop. Swar vigyan was presented as the greatest method of all: the active nostril and the length and direction of the breath on stepping onto a land reveal its quality and the use it suits. A Q&A covered the limits of the pit test, milk boiling at griha pravesh, small homes, courtyards and relief through land energy when directional defects cannot be fixed.

Recording: Vastu diploma class - 5 - Land selection and soil testing

Key points

  • 1Land energy decides about 70 percent of a land's result; dasha (land energy) matters more than disha (direction)
  • 2Omens (nimitta) on the way and at the site reveal a plot before you even reach it
  • 3Both nostrils flowing equally (sushumna) at the threshold or on the land marks a bad plot; never take such land even free
  • 4Chandra (left) swar land suits homes, temples, schools and finance work; Surya (right) swar land suits business and industry
  • 5Take five soil samples, from the four corners and the Brahmasthan, about 4 inches deep
  • 6Pit refill test: 25 percent soil left over is very auspicious; 10 percent short marks a hungry land to avoid
  • 7Pit water test: a fast clockwise swirl is excellent, anticlockwise is negative, and vanishing bubbles mean the land can be treated
  • 8Sindoor, cow urine, smell, taste and particle tests read soil chemistry; mineral-heavy soils and glass or mica particles are harmful
  • 9A flag hoisted on the East side shows land quality by the direction it flies
  • 10Aahuti to the 45 devtas pinpoints the defective devta zone through sneezing, itching, cracking or foul smell
  • 11Seeds that do not sprout in 7 days show an infertile land; sprouting in 3 days is excellent
  • 12Flats are tested with four ghee diyas, a clay pot water test, wheat javare, pulse rate and dhoop fragrance

Testingशल्य

Locating Buried Shalya from Bird Droppings, Injury and Itching

Where a bird's droppings fall on the visitor's body or clothes, where the visitor gets hurt, or where itching starts on the way to or while walking a land points to the matching part of the Vastu Purush where a defect or buried bone (shalya) lies.

The part of the plot that matches the body part, as mapped on the Vastu Purush

Testingभूमि तत्व परीक्षण

Five-Element (Bhoomi Tatva) Balance Test on a Land

Vastu is the balanced harmony of the five elements, so a land is checked for each one: fire at sunrise, air by holding the breath near a tree, water by the ground water condition, earth by how walking on it feels, and space by gazing at the sky.

Testingपंचांग

Panchang Test: Boiling Five Parts of a Tree from the Land

The root, bark, fruit, flower and leaves (panchang) of a tree growing on the land are boiled in water: calm boiling shows good land, while splashing, jumping or crackling shows negative energy, because the tree grows from the land's soil chemistry.

Testing

Soil Smell and Taste Test

Soil samples from all eight directions are mixed, smelt and brought near the tongue: a smell of flowers, ghee or honey and a sweet or astringent taste are auspicious, while a smell of excreta or liquor and a bitter taste are not.

Testingआपेक्षिक घनत्व

Pit Refill (Specific Gravity) Test for Land

A pit is dug, first in the North-East, and its own soil is packed back into it: leftover soil shows a strong land, while soil that falls short shows a hungry (bhukkad) land that drains the energy of its occupants.

First pit in the North-East (Ishaan) of the land

Testingसिंदूर

Sindoor Solution Test of Soil from the Four Corners

A chemical test in which soil from the four corners is mixed with sindoor in glass bowls: soil that turns from black toward reddish shows a land able to change and improve, while soil that stays black is not considered good.

Samples from the North-East, South-East, South-West and North-West corners

Testingगोमूत्र

Desi Cow Urine Smell Test of Soil

A chemical test in which a few drops of desi cow urine are added to soil samples from the four corners: a strong cow urine smell shows good land, and no smell at all shows a land that is not good.

Samples from the four corners of the land

Testing

Pit Water Movement Test: Reading Land Energy from Swirl and Bubbles

Pure water poured with a mantra into a small pit dug in the North-East, East or Brahmasthan swirls clockwise on good land and anticlockwise on negative land; the speed of the swirl and the place and behaviour of the air bubbles show the whole plot's energy and its buried defects.

North-East, East or Brahmasthan of the land

Testing

Clay Pot Water Movement Test for a Flat

Where no pit can be dug, such as a flat on the 27th floor, a round earthen vessel filled with water shows the flat's energy by the direction in which the water moves and how clean it stays.

Inside the flat being tested

Testing

Five-Point Soil Sampling: Four Corners and Brahmasthan

The correct way to sample a land is to take five soil samples, one from each of the four corners (vidishas) and one from the Brahmasthan, so that the five elements are represented.

Testing

Soil Particle Inspection with a Lens

The five soil samples are examined under a lens: golden or copper-like particles show a prosperous and healthy land, while sindoor-red, mica, glass-like or black particles warn of lost reputation, fire, disease or accidents.

Testingध्वज

Flag (Dhwaj) Test for Land, Flat and Industrial Land

A flag with flowers tied inside is hoisted on the East side of a land, flat or industrial plot in an auspicious muhurta or in Chandra swar and then released; the direction in which it flies reveals the land's quality.

Testingवास्तु देवता हवन विधि

Vastu Devta Havan Test: Finding the Defective Devta Zone

Aahuti (oblations) are offered with fragrant dhoop to each of the 45 Vastu Devtas on the land; the devta at whose aahuti a sneeze, itching, crackling, harsh words, a frightening sound or crying is noticed marks the zone where the land holds a defect.

Testing

Havan Flame Images Reveal Buried Negative Objects

During aahuti with the Bhoomi Jagran Mantra, the flame takes the shape of whatever negative object lies in the land; photographing the flame and studying it shows what is buried there or what has been done to the land.

Testing

Dhoop Fragrance (Aroma) Test for a Land or Flat

Fragrant dhoop is burnt on the land or in the flat, alone or during havan: the more its fragrance grows, the better the place, while a foul smell or no fragrance at all marks a bad land.

On the land or inside the flat

Testing

Seed Germination (Fertility) Test of a Land

Seeds of five grains sown in a small watered patch of the land show its energy by how fast they sprout: within three days is excellent, five days moderate, and no sprout in seven days marks an inferior, infertile land.

A 2 x 2 feet patch at the site of the planned building

Testing

Wheat Javare Fertility Test for a Flat

In a flat, wheat is grown in an earthen pot of good fertile soil, the way javare are grown in Navratri; the height and colour the shoots reach in nine days show how fertile and energetic the place is.

Inside the flat

Testing

Pulse and Heartbeat Test of a Flat or Land

Your pulse is measured before and after reaching a flat or land: if it stays in the normal range the place is very good, and if it is disturbed or the heartbeat rises the place is not good. The nadi active at that moment also shows whether the land is sattvic or rajasic.

On reaching the flat or land

Testingस्वर विज्ञान

Swar Test on a Land: Step In with the Active Nostril's Foot

Before entering a land, note which nostril is active and how far down and in what direction the breath flows; step onto the land first with the foot of the active side, walk one full round while watching the breath, and read the land's quality and defects from it.

On the land, starting from the point of entry

Testing

Milk Boiling Test at Griha Pravesh

The custom of boiling milk in a new home is a nimitta test: milk that boils over silently is auspicious, while crackling or popping sounds show that some ritual remained incomplete or a defect remains in the construction.

Principles and Rules5

Principle

Land Energy Carries 70 Percent Weight in Land Selection

When selecting a plot, flat or industrial land, the energy of the land itself decides about 70 percent of the result, more than slope, shape or surrounding structures. A building made fully as per directional vastu can still fail on land with bad energy.

Principle

Soil Colour and the Occupation It Suits

Soil colour has long been linked to the work a land suits: red soil for the Kshatriya (hard-working people), yellow for the Brahmin, black for the Shudra and white for the Vaishya. Today a whole town often shares one soil type due to its geology, so colour is read together with texture, smell and taste.

Principle

Mineral-Rich and Metallic Soil Is Harmful

Land heavy with metallic or black minerals carries more energy than most people can bear, so areas rich in surface minerals stay poor and troubled; minerals lying deep underground or bound with silicates are far less harmful.

Principle

Chandra Nadi Land for Homes, Surya Nadi Land for Business

The swar a land brings on decides its best use: land that activates the Chandra (left) nadi suits homes, temples, schools and finance work, while land that activates the Surya (right) nadi suits business and industry. Land on which both nadis run is the worst of all.

Principle

Dasha (Land Energy) Matters More Than Disha (Direction)

In vastu, dasha, meaning the land energy, matters more than disha, the direction of a defect. A home whose directional defects cannot be fixed can still get 50 to 60 percent relief by correcting its land energy.

Mantras and Yantras1

Mantraभूमि जागरण मंत्र

Bhoomi Jagran Mantra for Aahuti on a Land

A mantra chanted while offering aahuti on a land to awaken it; it is used to verify the land's energy through the havan and to keep working until the negativity leaves.

Dehleez Test: Breath and Body Signs When Setting Out to See a Plot

The threshold (dehleez) of the home acts as a testing machine: the moment you step over it to go and see a plot, flat or factory, your breath and body signal whether that property is good. Equal flow in both nostrils or left-side body signs warn against it; earth or water element in the breath and right-side signs approve it.

Threshold (dehleez) of your own home

Predictionशकुन शास्त्र

Inauspicious Omens on the Way to See a Plot or Flat

Shakun shastra (nimitta gyan) reads the signs met on the way to a property; certain sights and events on the journey warn that the plot or flat is not good. They arise because the land's energy is already acting on the visitor's body chemistry.

Prediction

Dog, Jackal and Crow Omens at the Plot

The behaviour of street dogs, jackals and crows at a plot or flat reveals its quality: a crow cawing while facing East or North is a good sign, while crying dogs and a crow on a dry tree are grave warnings.

Prediction

Sights and Sounds on First Entering a Land or Flat

What one first sees and hears on stepping onto a land or into a flat indicates its energy: black items, broken things, snake holes and harsh sounds are bad signs, while a conch, aarti or auspicious songs, a rainbow or a joyful sky are good ones.

Prediction

Torn or Soiled Clothes While Visiting a Land

Clothes that tear, get a hole, or get soiled with mud, dung or dirty water on the way to or at a land signal that the land is not good; the position of a tear shows how bad it is.

Predictionप्रश्न

Prashna Signs: Judging a Land from the Person Asking About It

When someone asks whether to buy a land, flat or house, the side on which they stand relative to the expert's active nostril and the manner in which they ask reveal whether the land is good. A trained swar expert can read the land this way even from far away.

Predictionप्रश्न कुंडली

Prashna Lagna and Chart for a Land Purchase Question

A chart cast for the moment someone asks about buying a plot, flat or land shows whether it is good: a fixed lagna, benefics in the kendras and a strong 4th house favour it, while malefics in the kendras warn against it.

Questions asked in this session

In the pit water test, if the water swirls clockwise but the air bubbles move to the sides, is the land good?

If the bubbles move to the sides and quickly vanish, merging into the water, the land does have a defect, but it will be resolved with treatment. The water then turning clear confirms this. Observing the practical properly takes about an hour.

What if the land soaks up the water during the pit test; should the pit be filled again?

No. The test is not possible everywhere: on sandy land, on land with very high porosity and permeability that absorbs the water as soon as it is poured, or on fractured land with many cracks, the water cannot show any movement. The test works on solid land.

Of all the land energy testing methods, which one is the best?

All the methods are good, but no method in the world is greater than swar. Many methods cannot be used in a flat, while swar can check a flat, a land or anything else. Learn swar well, practise it and do nadi shodhan; then you may not even need to visit the plot, because someone standing there can phone you and you can tell from where you are.

What is the logic behind a cat crossing the path from the left or the right?

This belongs to ashtang nimitta. A cat coming from the right side gives an auspicious sign and one coming from the left an inauspicious sign; if the cat crosses and then stands in the middle staring at you, the land is very bad and you should not go there at all, as even the visit brings negativity. Cats and dogs are the biggest dowsers: they react first even before an earthquake, and a cat senses that you are on the way to a wrong task and tries to stop you.

Why is left eye twitching auspicious for women when right eye twitching is auspicious for men?

The left part of a woman is always considered auspicious, which is why she is called vamangi, and moles or marks on her left side are also auspicious. In swar vigyan the Chandra (left) nadi represents the female and the Surya (right) nadi the male, so an active left side or a good sign on the left of the body is favourable for a woman and the right side for a man. If a man's left eye or a woman's right eye twitches on reaching a land, the land is very bad, because the sign is working against that person.

Can a swar expert answer a vastu question sent by message or asked at any random time?

A question gets a true answer only when the person being asked sits with a calm, concentrated mind and steady chitta, ideally early in the morning in brahma muhurta at his seat. If he has been working for hours with his Surya swar active and you ask at that moment, the same swar keeps running and no connection with your question forms. Sending repeated messages does not create the connection either.

If a vastu energy scanner shows a home as fully balanced but problems such as an unending loan continue, what should one trust?

The scanner reading and the results in life should match; if the scanner says the energy is fine while the problems continue, the scanner is at fault. The best scanner is the one built into you, your own breath. Check the home with your swar after nadi shodhan instead of relying on market scanners.

What does it mean if a kite or a crow strikes someone on the head with its beak or claws, sometimes two family members on the same day?

It is a negative sign. A bird striking the head gives a health-related indication and warns that an illness may be coming. This is part of the wider subject of ashtang nimitta.

During the pit water test, if insects come up after the water is poured, is that a sign?

Before pouring water, check the pit for insects and clear them; the process should not be done with insects in it. Insects living inside the soil come out when water is poured, and that is not an omen. What matters is the air bubbles: a bubble bursting suddenly with a cracker-like sound sometimes gives a negative indication.

If the swar reading is good but two or three inauspicious omens occur, can they be balanced?

The pit water test tells whether it will balance. If all the air bubbles in the pit merge and vanish, everything will become fine after treatment.

What are the five parts used in the panchang test, and what should be watched for?

Panchang means the five parts of any tree: its root, bark, fruit, flower and leaves. Boil them in water and watch whether any sound comes, like the crackling heard when ghee or oil is used for tempering. Quiet boiling shows good land; jumping and crackling show negative energy.

People boil milk when entering a new flat; is there a science behind it?

Yes, it is nimitta gyan and not merely a custom of letting milk boil over for luck. If the milk heats fully and boils over without any sound, it is auspicious, a sign that the offering has been accepted. If it crackles or pops like ghee on heat, some ritual was left incomplete or some defect remains in the construction or the griha pravesh. The colour of the flame where milk or ghee falls, red, yellow or black, is also read.

Can nadi shodhan be done during pregnancy?

Only partly; the complete nadi shodhan practice cannot be done. In pregnancy it is done only in Chandra swar to heal the child: close the Surya swar, and in Chandra swar call the shaktis one by one, such as amrit shakti, gyan shakti and jeevant shakti out of the 47 types, inhale them and release them where the child is.

Is a camel statue good to keep in the house?

This is a subject of astro vastu. Different items represent different planets; if a planet is very negative in your kundli and you keep the item that represents it, the negativity grows further. Which item suits which home, and with what, is covered in interior vastu.

Should shoes or slippers be worn while testing a land by swar?

It is best to remove shoes and slippers, though wearing them causes no real problem, because the reading comes from the air you inhale after it meets the land, and you can breathe either way. Barefoot, the current also enters the body directly through the bhoomi chakra of the earth element in the big toe of the right foot, in addition to the nose.

Which mantra is used while pouring water in the pit test and in the vastu devta havan, and where can it be found?

The water mantra chanted while pouring water into the pit is not found in Jinvani; it was to be shared with the class group (exact words: refer to the class recording), and the Gayatri Mantra can be used instead. The Bhoomi Jagran Mantra used for aahuti on the land is found in the book Pratishtha Parag, a text on pratishtha (consecration).

If a home has defects in the North-East, Brahmasthan and South-East that cannot be corrected and the family cannot move out, can correcting the land energy help?

Yes. Land energy carries 70 percent of the role, so changing and correcting it can give about 50 to 60 percent relief. Many large hotels have toilets in the Ishaan and still prosper because 6 to 10 feet of soil was dug out and thrown away, removing the land's negativity. In vastu, dasha (land energy) matters more than disha (direction).

Is element-based vastu applied to small homes of 70 to 90 gaj?

Small homes of 70, 80 or 90 gaj are not treated with element-based directional vastu; aay vastu is applied to them instead. Under mathematical vastu, studied later, vastu applies to homes from about 100 gaj upward.

If a house faces South or West, must its slope also be toward the South-West, as in many houses?

There are two types of slope, which will be covered again. If water flows underground toward the South, it is not a big defect: electricity and water move underground everywhere without regard to direction, so an underground flow against the ideal direction does not create a dosh. People living where underground water flows to the South and West are also found to be happy.

Old village houses had a central courtyard (aangan) set lower than waist level; is that a vastu defect?

A sunken courtyard in the centre suits only a temple. In homes the courtyards were actually built raised, with a boundary all around and a tulsi platform in the middle, so they were not counted as a defect.

From where, and how many, soil samples should be collected from a land?

Take five samples, representing the five elements: one from each of the four corners (vidishas) and one from the Brahmasthan. Take the soil from about 4 inches (4 angul) below the surface.

Is a highly metallic, mineral-rich soil good or bad for a land?

It is bad. Where metallic minerals, and especially black ones such as coal, are plentiful, negative forces settle: mineral-rich Bihar and Jharkhand and diamond-bearing Panna district are not prosperous, because few people can bear such strong energy, just as a 400 carat neelam or 20 paracetamol harms instead of helping. Minerals at the surface act on the house directly, while metals bound with silicates or lying deep underground, as at the Kolar Gold Fields, are not as harmful.
