A coconut set on a small water-filled clay kalash at the Parjanya pad, with the water poured into tulsi and refilled daily, activates Parjanya; when the coconut sprouts, the devta is awake.

The tree of Jayant is sandalwood; since it cannot be grown in a pot, plant tulsi at E3 and stand a small sandalwood stick in the pot so the fragrance spreads through the house.
When a tree stands in a wrong place, such as a tall mango tree in the North-East, and cannot be removed, tulsi plants around it and energy-capturing plants in the North reduce the harm.
Tulsi plants

Tulsi absorbs the rays of the sun and, because of its mercury content, spreads that energy through the whole house, which is why tulsi pots are kept in the zones from North-East to East.
Plants are the most sensitive testers of home energy: tulsi and white hibiscus react at once to negativity, and a tulsi that keeps drying or a peace lily that will not grow shows negativity that has to be cleared.
Tulsi

Jayant, the third devta of the East (pad E3, in the outer paishachik ring), is the success-maker who completes any work by any means (saam, daam, dand, bhed) while following dharma, and converts knowledge into wealth. Its door is called the vipul sampada (abundant wealth) door because the grace of the Moon on this pad is very strong.
Tree: sandalwood (chandan); in a pot, tulsi with a small sandalwood stick

The outermost band of a plot, the pishach bhoomi, is the seat of the 32 lokpals and bears the noise of the road. It is where the boundary wall and its gate, servant quarters, guards and pets belong, where flags are hoisted and where shilanyas (foundation stone laying) is done.
Outermost band (pishach veethi) of the plot, along the boundary
Pits, wells, drains, poles, big trees, garbage, a road hitting the door or a long-vacant house in front of the main door each bring a specific harm, from disease to loss of lifespan.
The North-East is the seat of Jupiter. Its interior uses ivory and white with golden yellow, gold or gold-polished artifacts, topaz or citrine, auspicious symbols such as Ashtamangal, Nandyavart and the mangal kalash, and white or yellow flowering plants.
The North belongs to Mercury. Its interior uses green with blue, ivory and white, Kota stone, green marble or limestone, emerald-family minerals, flowers and fragrance, Kuber and water pictures, a bandanwar, clay artifacts and a small library.
Plants: tulsi, champa, white rose, kewra, lavender, mogra, small-leaved golden money plant
Tulsi senses negative energy entering the home and drives it away, and the air rising from it cleans the whole house, so every home must have one, especially in the North-East and the brahmasthan.
Old village houses had a central courtyard (aangan) set lower than waist level; is that a vastu defect?
A sunken courtyard in the centre suits only a temple. In homes the courtyards were actually built raised, with a boundary all around and a tulsi platform in the middle, so they were not counted as a defect.
A peace lily was planted twice at home and did not survive. Is there a dosh?
Yes. Plants are the most sensitive testers and signal earthquakes and accidents in a house in advance. White hibiscus and tulsi react at once to negativity, and a failing peace lily shows negativity in the house. Remove the negativity and the peace lily will start growing by itself.
A mango tree inside the boundary in the North-East is growing taller than the house. What effect will it have?
Only one tall tree is allowed in the North-East, the coconut, which draws cosmic energy from above and passes it down. No other tall tree should stand there. If one already exists and cannot be cut, plant energy-capturing plants such as tulsi in the North and plant tulsi all around the tree.
Can tulsi be kept inside the house, and why does it keep drying?
Yes, tulsi can be kept inside if it gets proper air and light. If it dries again and again, the house has negativity; light a cow-ghee diya near it. Tulsi is said to produce the most oxygen, and a ghee lamp beside it to generate so much oxygen that the pair could serve like an oxygen cylinder in an emergency.
Mango and pomegranate trees stand inside the boundary on the East side; should they be removed?
A fruiting mango tree need not be removed: build a boundary and chabutra around it and keep a tulsi plant there. A pomegranate can be moved with its roots to another place; if it cannot be moved, pour desi cow urine at its roots and place tulsi near it.
