Never in the Brahmasthan: Stairs, Main Door, Locker, Pits, Basement or Kitchen

Stairs, the main door, a locker, a pit, boring or dug well, a basement confined to the centre, a store room, a garage or a kitchen must not be built in the Brahmasthan. Each causes serious harm, from illness in the family to quarrels and ruin.

Principle

When to Zone the Complete Plot and When Only the Constructed Area

If a regular plot is almost fully used, with only small strips left, zone the complete plot. If a small building stands on a large plot with parking, a garden and open land, zone the constructed area for the house, and also zone the complete area to place the boundary gate, boring, dug well, servant room, security cabin, temple, garden and swimming pool.

Questions and answers

Our parking area is in the North-East of the plot. Does that make the North-East cut?

Not at all. A plot with its boundary on all sides and the North-East left open as parking or a porch is not cut; the North-East is meant to stay open to the sky with less construction. A consultant who calls it cut lacks even nursery-level vastu knowledge. In one Indore case, a family who believed this left a prosperous house that only had a porch in the North-East and then suffered in two costlier houses.

In villas, kothis and farmhouses with a boundary wall and open land, is the centre taken of the constructed area or of the whole plot?

Both, for different purposes. The whole plot inside the boundary wall is used for the boundary gate and for placing parking, servant quarters, pet shelters and guard rooms, while the house is zoned on its constructed area alone, which decides its main door and rooms. If the house is built almost up to the boundary, leaving about 3 ft, take the whole plot; if 15 to 20 ft is left around a 30 by 50 ft house, zone the 30 by 50 ft area for the house, otherwise half of its zones are lost.

Many malls have parking in the basement. Is that right?

Yes. Work that needs no sun rays, such as vehicle parking, suits a basement, and bars and discos also run there. In Europe the heating system is placed in the basement, because vastu depends on local geography and climate; Indian principles do not apply as they are abroad, and foreign vastu is taught separately.

Should the zoning, devtas and marma be done on the constructed area or on the whole plot?

It depends on the house. When a lot of land around the building lies unused, take only the constructed area and zone it separately. For a normal plot of about 2000 sq ft with just a parking and a small front garden, take the whole plot, and mark the devtas and marma on the whole as well. Small houses of 1200 to 2100 sq ft are taken whole, parking included.
