When the East is fully blocked by an adjoining wall, make an opening (duct) from the top on the East side so the overhead Sun can send its rays inside at its time.
Where the mind stays disturbed, the house feels empty, or people sense a shadow or someone following them, a glass bowl filled with gomti chakra in water is kept and the house is mopped with that water.
Glass bowl kept in the house; its water used for mopping
Place a protractor on the house plan aligned to North, adjusting for any tilt, and mark the 4 directions, the 4 sub-directions at 45 degrees and 8 further sub-directions at 22.5 degrees. For a house use the 81-pad layout, in which the 32 outer devtas each cover 11.25 degrees and N5, E5, S5 and W5 fall exactly on the cardinal points.
Stairs carry three currents linked with ida, pingala and sushumna, named Indra, Yama and Raj; count the steps in that repeating order so the last step falls on Indra or Raj, never on Yama.
When a house built to good Vastu suddenly sees quarrels, business loss, restless children, bad dreams or a family member who stays ill, check what sits on its ati marma points. Shoes, a dustbin, a used plate or heavy goods placed there can trigger such trouble, and moving them brings quick relief.
The sun's movement from East to West creates a magnetic effect with North and South poles. A plot, building, room or hall whose North-South axis is longer (chandra-bhedi) holds the strongest magnetic field, giving attraction and concentration; one whose East-West axis is longer is called surya-bhedi.
Plots, buildings, rooms, halls, classrooms and office chambers
A tijori or locker that is propped up with a wedge (teka) or is not at water level reduces the wealth in it to zero, because the gravitational force does not act on it.
Every plot is divided into pads (sections) according to its use: 81 pads for a residence, 64 pads for a temple or religious place, and a separate layout for a town. Directions are further divided into 16 and 32 parts, down to 11.25 degrees, on which the 45 Vastu devtas are marked.
The human body has its own poles, with the head as its north pole and the feet as its south pole. With the head to the South, the poles of body and earth lie opposite and attract; with like poles together they repel, and sleep does not come.
Energy rising from the land (geopathic) meets energy from the planets and stars (cosmic) and forms a third energy that can turn intense or toxic when mixed with household activity, so it must be able to leave the house. Every room therefore needs ventilation.
The swar a land brings on decides its best use: land that activates the Chandra (left) nadi suits homes, temples, schools and finance work, while land that activates the Surya (right) nadi suits business and industry. Land on which both nadis run is the worst of all.
In vastu, dasha, meaning the land energy, matters more than disha, the direction of a defect. A home whose directional defects cannot be fixed can still get 50 to 60 percent relief by correcting its land energy.
On large plots such as villas, kothis and farmhouses, the whole plot inside the boundary wall is zoned for the gate and outbuildings, while the house itself is zoned on its constructed area alone.
Whole plot for the boundary gate, parking, servant quarters, pet shelter, guard room and goshala; constructed area for the main door and rooms
The centre, zoning, devtas and marma are taken on every area the residents can access and use, such as parking, a small garden, terraces and balconies. Only when a large part of the land lies unused is the constructed area zoned on its own.
Both grids hold the same 45 vastu devtas, but the 81-pada mandala is used for homes and business premises while the 64-pada mandala is used for temples, villages, palaces (raj mandir), towns and city gates.
Homes and businesses (81 pada); temples, villages, palaces, towns and city gates (64 pada)
A doctor's chamber is the best use of the Parjanya pad, and a conference room, a bedroom for peace and deep sleep, or a bath (yog snan) also suit it. A toilet or a main door here causes delays and female dominance.
Drawing room, office, puja room, conference room, underground water tank, borewell and a bedroom for elders suit the Shikhi pad. A main door, kitchen or toilet here harms the residents.
E3 suits the main door, a library, a planning or meeting room, an office, a child's study and even a bedroom; a kitchen works only for an early breakfast, and a toilet cuts social and government support.
E4 suits an administration chamber, office, main door, drawing room, study and bedroom and gives both wealth and peace; a toilet here brings defamation, loss of wealth and disease.
E5 is the ideal zone for a bathroom and suits administration, a manager's chamber, a locker, planning, meeting and conference rooms and a good office; a door here brings anger and a toilet brings disgrace.
The corners of a plot are its biggest sources of energy, and energy flows diagonally from corner to corner through the brahmasthan like a highway. Piling or filling a huge mass over a whole corner zone creates a serious defect.
The four outer corners (vidishas) of the plot at the boundary wall
East is the Sun's direction that starts creation and connects people socially, politically and religiously, so it is the zone of association and politics. Keep it open and clean; obstructing the Sun here brings trouble to the house owner.
In the last minutes before sunrise, cool fresh air comes from ENE and fills a person with joy, so it is the zone of recreation and fun. Everything allowed in the NE is allowed here, plus gym, meditation, play area, TV and home theatre.
From 7:30 to 9 am the Sun sits in ESE and its rays churn (manthan), making it the zone of analysis, also called the anxiety zone. It suits wash areas, septic tanks, guest rooms, lifts and rooms of small children or research scholars, but not adult bedrooms, tijori or business counters.
The best place for a home temple is the West with the deities facing East, as in the great temples; SW and WSW also work, and a Saraswati temple suits WSW. Keep the shikhar small, never hang consecrated idols, and stand elephant figures on a solid base.
North is Kuber's treasury: Kuber promises to keep the store full but asks for hard work, giving opportunities for work and business, so it is the zone of opportunity and money. Keep the North light, low and open, with water and greenery.
The earth is tilted about 23 degrees toward the NE, so this corner receives the most energy; it is the zone of clarity. Keep it low and open, use it for water, study and worship, and keep here everything you want to charge or speed up.
The Sun's light arrives about 48 minutes before sunrise in NNE and NE, carrying the most vitamin D, B12 and Ayurvedic energy, so NNE is the zone of health and immunity. It suits rooms for the elderly and the sick, medicines, water and open space; only toilets and fire are forbidden.
If a vastu energy scanner shows a home as fully balanced but problems such as an unending loan continue, what should one trust?
The scanner reading and the results in life should match; if the scanner says the energy is fine while the problems continue, the scanner is at fault. The best scanner is the one built into you, your own breath. Check the home with your swar after nadi shodhan instead of relying on market scanners.
If a home has defects in the North-East, Brahmasthan and South-East that cannot be corrected and the family cannot move out, can correcting the land energy help?
Yes. Land energy carries 70 percent of the role, so changing and correcting it can give about 50 to 60 percent relief. Many large hotels have toilets in the Ishaan and still prosper because 6 to 10 feet of soil was dug out and thrown away, removing the land's negativity. In vastu, dasha (land energy) matters more than disha (direction).
Is element-based vastu applied to small homes of 70 to 90 gaj?
Small homes of 70, 80 or 90 gaj are not treated with element-based directional vastu; aay vastu is applied to them instead. Under mathematical vastu, studied later, vastu applies to homes from about 100 gaj upward.
If a house faces South or West, must its slope also be toward the South-West, as in many houses?
There are two types of slope, which will be covered again. If water flows underground toward the South, it is not a big defect: electricity and water move underground everywhere without regard to direction, so an underground flow against the ideal direction does not create a dosh. People living where underground water flows to the South and West are also found to be happy.
Old village houses had a central courtyard (aangan) set lower than waist level; is that a vastu defect?
A sunken courtyard in the centre suits only a temple. In homes the courtyards were actually built raised, with a boundary all around and a tulsi platform in the middle, so they were not counted as a defect.
In villas, kothis and farmhouses with a boundary wall and open land, is the centre taken of the constructed area or of the whole plot?
Both, for different purposes. The whole plot inside the boundary wall is used for the boundary gate and for placing parking, servant quarters, pet shelters and guard rooms, while the house is zoned on its constructed area alone, which decides its main door and rooms. If the house is built almost up to the boundary, leaving about 3 ft, take the whole plot; if 15 to 20 ft is left around a 30 by 50 ft house, zone the 30 by 50 ft area for the house, otherwise half of its zones are lost.
Our house faces a cremation ground and despite hard work we have had no results for four years. What should we do?
A house facing a cremation ground drains about 90% of the effort, and changes made in it give only about 10% results. Mercury and mercury nails placed all around give some relief but not full results. Plan to leave the house and take another one in time to secure the future of the children.
Should the zoning, devtas and marma be done on the constructed area or on the whole plot?
It depends on the house. When a lot of land around the building lies unused, take only the constructed area and zone it separately. For a normal plot of about 2000 sq ft with just a parking and a small front garden, take the whole plot, and mark the devtas and marma on the whole as well. Small houses of 1200 to 2100 sq ft are taken whole, parking included.
In a kothi with about 10 feet left open on all four sides, will the 32 outer devtas fall outside the house?
Yes, they fall outside the building in that open margin, and that is exactly the logic of keeping the Pishach bhoomi open. If the devtas were marked on the built part alone, you would again ask for its Pishach bhoomi to be left empty, which is wrong. Things placed on the walls of the built house fall in the Manushya bhoomi.
Which pada grid is used for homes and businesses, and which for temples and towns?
Both the 81-pada and the 64-pada grids carry the 45 devtas. The 81-pada vastu is used for homes and business premises, while the 64-pada vastu is used for temples, villages, royal palaces (raj mandir) and towns, including a town gate. This course teaches the 45 devtas on the 81-pada grid.
In small houses three corners are closed by walls anyway. Does that count as covering the corners?
No. Walls enclosing a house are normal; covering means burying a corner under a huge mass, such as a boulder fill 35 to 40 ft long or a thousand bricks stacked permanently in one corner. Energy moves through all four corners, so keep them free of such heavy masses whatever the direction.
