Varun and Pushpadant in the West fulfil the wishes of the mind. Keep your written application or wish in the West with a special swastik, a mirror, a pyramid, navratna and five-element symbols, and place it at the three sandhya times.
For a North-East cut, for example with an exalted Ketu whose diagonal points to the North-East, a kalash is installed in the North-East with mirrors fixed all around it.
In a dressing room or bathroom mirrors should go on the North or East walls. If a wash basin is already in the South and its mirror must be there, fix a mirror of the same size on the North wall to balance it.
Second mirror of the same size as the South mirror
As taught in class, a convex mirror makes a small space look bigger and extends it, while a concave mirror makes a big space look smaller; so a convex mirror treats a cut and a concave mirror treats an extension. A plain mirror can also extend a cut.
Convex mirror (for a cut)
North or East wall of the cut part; inside of the wall to extend, outer side to reduce
A mirror placed for income (aay) increases income: people keep a small mirror in the wallet or fix mirrors inside the galla or tijori so the money appears multiplied.
Small mirror pieces to fit the inner walls of the cash box
Inside the cash box, galla or tijori; in the wallet or pocket
N4, E3 and W4 are the Mahalakshmi doors through which Lakshmi enters; a house with all three open sees a heavy flow of money and many sources of income.

Mark Om and swastik on the main door, write the name of your isht (chosen deity) and add auspicious symbols such as kalash and darpan. Do it in a good muhurta such as Basant Panchami or after the Sun turns Uttarayan.
A mirror false ceiling at the centre point of the Brahmasthan makes the space open to the sky and balances the space element when a real open-to-sky courtyard cannot be built.
Mirror glass ceiling panel, or a chandelier with a mirror base
After Om and swastik the kalash is the greatest symbol and is established before every beginning (wedding, business start, construction, any of the 16 sanskar). A filled mangal kalash with a coconut in the North-East of every home, factory and office forms Gajkesari yoga and balances the five elements.
Small mirror
North-East of every home, factory and office; a clay kalash can go in any direction
A mirror on the ceiling of the Brahmasthan is very good because it makes the ceiling open to the sky; this is why old chandeliers (jhoomar) had mirror bases.
Mirror for the ceiling, or a chandelier with a mirror base
Use one whole glass mirror rather than small pieces, keep every mirror at least two feet above the floor, and never use plastic mirror film in place of a mirror.
Glass mirror (darpan), one whole piece
North wall at an entrance, and any wall of the house or temple
Every trade belongs to a planet; using that planet's colour, shape, artefacts, paintings, metals, mirrors and glass at the business multiplies its energy, while a clashing colour can shut it down.
The water element is shown by a silver or white half moon, its colour is white, its zone runs from North to North-East and its metal is silver; water bodies and mirrors represent it.
Mirror (darpan)
North to North-East; avoid the opposite South-East
SE is pure Agneya: from 9 am to 12 noon the young Sun's fire is strong enough to cook food, so this is the ideal kitchen zone and the zone of cash flow. Water, mirrors and money storage go wrong here.
Keep heavy furniture and cupboards in the South, West or SW of the bedroom, and avoid sleeping under beams or tanks, near electronics, facing mirrors or over clutter.
Only about 55 percent of the Sun's energy reaches the earth. Of that, trees and plants capture about 95 percent, mirrors 80, pyramids 65, water 60, yantras 60 to 90, metals 45 and stones 35, while plastic and petroleum by-products capture none.
Mirror: about 80 percent
Room decoration in general; plants are chosen by planet and direction
Rules to avoid in kitchen design: no south-facing door, no doorless or open kitchen, no central platform, no mirrors or water artifacts, no toilet on any of its six sides and no well, borewell or tank above or below.
The mirror is one of the eight mangal items (ashtamangal) and is considered the best of them; it drives away negative energy and reflects energy when placed in the right direction. It represents the water element and the Moon, so it belongs on the North or East wall.
Square and rectangular mirrors are very good, but triangular and pointed-end mirrors are harmful, and mirrors cut into small pieces for scenery or glass temples (kaanch mandir) turn an auspicious item into an inauspicious one.
A mirror deepens the surface it is on: on a wall it makes the space look extended, on the floor it creates a pit. Highly reflective tiles, marble or stone must not be used in the South to West zones or the Brahmasthan.
Avoid in South, SSW, SW, WSW, West and Brahmasthan flooring
Paintings split into joined pieces, dry or cut trees, cut photos, mirrors touching the floor, swastik or Om on the floor, crying women, screaming animals, scenes of anger, crime or the Mahabharata, and God without feet should not be kept at home.
How long do the sun's rays take to reach the earth, and which materials capture the most of the planetary energy they bring?
The sun's rays take about 8 minutes 20 seconds to reach the earth, and only about 55% of their energy arrives; the other 45% is lost on the way. Of what arrives, trees and plants capture about 95%, mirrors 80%, yantras 60 to 90%, pyramids 65% (which is why fruit kept under a pyramid stays fresh), water 60% (mainly the Moon's energy), metals 45% and stones 35%. Plastic and other petroleum by-products capture none, so interiors should rely on natural materials and on indoor and outdoor plants chosen for the planet of each direction.
What should be done when Ketu is exalted in the 2nd house and the house has a North-East cut?
Rahu-Ketu belong to the South-West, and the diagonal from there is the North-East. Put a mirror at the cut, or install a kalash in the North-East and fix mirrors all around the kalash.
For a cut, should the mirror be fixed on the inside or the outside of the wall?
Fix it on the inside of the wall of the part you want to extend; seen from inside, that portion looks bigger and is extended. Fixing it on the outer side makes that part look smaller, so the outer side is used only when a part must be reduced.
A plain mirror shows about three times its size, as a 2 ft mirror shows a 6 ft person. For a 10 to 12 ft area with a 12 ft cut, use at least a 2.5 to 3 ft mirror; even a 1 ft mirror works to some extent, but the result depends on the area and the mirror quality. Use a convex mirror to enlarge a cut and a concave mirror to reduce an extension.
If the dressing room is in the SSW, can a mirror not be used there?
A dressing room has four walls, so fix the mirror on its North or East wall. If the wash basin is already in the South and its mirror must be there, fix a mirror of the same size on the North wall; the pit made in the South is matched by one opposite and the effect evens out.
Can a mirror be fitted on a wardrobe in the S, SSW, SW, WSW or West?
No. Wardrobe mirrors also belong on the North or East wall. Some say the North-West is also allowed because the mirror represents the water element and the Moon.
Our mandir is in the Brahmasthan and Lord Shiva faces West; is that a problem?
Do not worry about Lord Shankar facing West; worry only about the South, and even Hanuman ji may face South. If a deity ever faces a wrong direction, fix a mirror directly in front of the deity.
