The elephant (Airavat, the many-trunked mount of Indra) is the symbol of Mahendra; an elephant placed at E4 brings the devta to sit there and give results.

Mars with Rahu forms Angarak yoga, the accident yoga, and with the Moon added it also troubles the mind; a painting of an elephant with raised trunk bathing in water in the South-West or South protects against it.

A defect in the South means a damaged Mars; strengthening Mars with stone cladding, stone flooring, stone statues and red coral or hematite nullifies the South defect.

The elephant represents Rahu, whose zones run from South to South-West (SSW, SW, WSW). In south-facing or nairitya-facing houses with the entry there, two brass elephants with raised trunks pacify the door dosh.

Mahendra (Indra), the fourth devta of the East, is the king, sustainer and administrator who brings the energy of the planets, Sun, Moon and 27 nakshatras to earth and spreads it evenly through the house. It gives control over the mind and senses, right decisions, government support, contacts, name and fame.

Signs met while leaving home to see a land or building, such as body reactions, itching, dreams and sights on the road, foretell the energy and future of that property before you even reach it.
The East is ruled by Indra, its planet is the Sun, its gem is ruby (manik), its symbol is the vajra and its vehicle the Airavat elephant; in the Vastu Purush it is the mouth. A strong East brings production, talent, children's progress, health and immunity.

Paintings, carvings, idols, elevations and domes are made to change the mind (chitt) through images (chitra); temple interiors and exteriors were designed to balance elements, planets and forces and even to influence the devtas.
The elephant represents Rahu, so elephant statues or hanging-elephant bandhanwar (toran) do not suit every home, especially where the family's Rahu is debilitated.

The best place for a home temple is the West with the deities facing East, as in the great temples; SW and WSW also work, and a Saraswati temple suits WSW. Keep the shikhar small, never hang consecrated idols, and stand elephant figures on a solid base.
The South belongs to Mars. Its interior uses a small share of red with pink, orange, ivory and light green, copper, coral, ruby and red quartz, paintings of high mountains, a red horse or red elephant, a rock garden and Mars plants.

In a house visited earlier an elephant was painted in the Ishaan, yet the elephant is said to be the vehicle of the East. Where does it belong?
The elephant is the vehicle of Indra, lord of the East. Between the East and the North-East lies a 45-degree span with several pads, among them a debt door and a door that makes one rich, and every 11.25 degrees the chemistry and circumstances change, so the exact pad matters.
