A wall that leans even slightly unbalances the gravitational force in the room; the person who sleeps there stays ill and troubled, has bad dreams and does not sleep well.
The earth cooled from a ball of fire and tilted about 23.4 degrees toward the North-East, so a floor that is level or falls gently toward the North-East is in harmony with nature. An uneven floor, or one sloping any other way, is one of the biggest defects whatever the zone.
Floors of all rooms, toilets and bathrooms; slope of the plot
Gravitational force acts between the earth and every building, object and person. When columns, beams, walls, plaster and elevation are aligned with plumb line and level, the force stays balanced and the occupants remain healthy and alert; misalignment brings obstacles, illness and loss.
Even a main door placed on a correct pad such as E3 or E4 gives no result if its threshold (dehleez) is not at water level or the door leans. A door leaning outward slowly empties the house, and one leaning inward invites illness.
Building materials affect health: the lung diseases common today are linked to the heavy use of adhesives and oil-based paints. Bricks, stones and other materials for a home should be chosen with care.
Early morning sun brings positive ultraviolet rays rich in vitamins and metals, while after about 2 pm the rays turn infrared. Openings and wall thickness are planned accordingly so the building admits good energy and blocks harmful energy.
Morning-sun side open and light; the side struck by the sun after about 2 pm heavy and closed
A large study found that people whose toilet seats were not at water level suffered kidney damage, and many with heart disease, cancer and especially stomach problems had seats out of level. A level seat matters even more than the zone of the toilet.
Ash of any kind, including thermal power plant fly ash, is treated as shalya (an impure defect, like buried bone). However good the Vastu structure, sun rays falling on fly ash bricks reflect onto the occupants and affect them negatively.
Every house, however small, carries the Vastu Purush's eyes, nose, ears, hands, feet, heart, navel and other parts, including the marma and ati-marma (vital) points. A column, pit or stud on these points harms the occupants, just as a speck of dust in the eye or an injury to a vital organ harms the body.

However wrongly a staircase is placed, it should not be broken and shifted, and no wall should be broken to make a new door; doing so creates serious trouble.
The shape of a building is the shape in which its plinth beam and foundation (neev, bunyaad) are laid in the ground, because the underground geopathic current runs in that shape. Balconies and chhajjas projecting above do not change the shape.
Any land, plot, flat or large project, whatever its carpet area, is divided into four concentric parts: the outer pishach bhoomi (pishach veethi), then the manushya bhoomi, then the dev bhoomi, and the brahm bhoomi at the centre. Each part has its own nature and decides what may be built or kept there.
Whole plot, from the boundary inward to the centre
The manushya bhoomi, the second band inward, takes the main door, windows, kitchen, bedrooms, dining room, puja room and stairs. No shilanyas, boring or pit should be made in it, and above all not at the corners of its transition with the pishach bhoomi, where the shishu pishach and pishacha points lie.
Manushya bhoomi, and the corners where it meets the pishach bhoomi
Stairs, the main door, a locker, a pit, boring or dug well, a basement confined to the centre, a store room, a garage or a kitchen must not be built in the Brahmasthan. Each causes serious harm, from illness in the family to quarrels and ruin.
Brahmasthan (the nine central squares) and the brahm bindu (exact centre)
On plots of up to about 1000 sq ft (60 to 90 gaj), simply building the wall on the outer band ends the pishach dosh, because the pishach devtas are content with a little space. On plots of up to about 1500 sq ft, leaving the pishach portion open or walling it also satisfies them.
Floor-to-slab height represents the air element: the more space air has, the more freely it moves and the more comfortable the house feels. The ground floor gets the greatest height and each upper floor progressively less.
The South-West holds the earth element, whose nature is solid, heavy and dense, so this zone is kept solid, heavy and compact with the fewest openings. Infrared rays also arrive from the South-West at a particular time of day, another reason to keep it closed.
Palaces and old houses had an open-to-sky courtyard at the centre, which kept the mind clear; when the courtyard disappeared, that clarity went too. If the centre cannot be open to the sky on every floor, a double height at the Brahmasthan still balances the space element.
Houses used to have ventilators high on the walls to balance the air element; bringing them down as windows has led to more arguments at home, even from ten-year-old children. Doors, windows and cross-ventilation are a must.

The North to North-East location of the water element means water sources such as borings, wells and tanks are made below ground level there, not as overhead tanks. Roof-top water should also drain towards the water element direction.
The three zones from North-East to East receive pure energy that must collect and stay, so they are kept low, open to the sky and free of dirt, toilets, high walls and heavy objects, with a part left unpaved (kachcha) for a garden or lawn.
The outer pishach bhoomi of a plot is always left open on all sides, and on a North-facing plot the building is placed in the South and West part, leaving open space for energy to enter.
Building in the South and West part of a North-facing plot; open land on all sides
Stairs carry geopathic currents from below up through the building; stairs that turn clockwise increase the current, while stairs that turn anti-clockwise cause loss.
A basement without sunlight should not be used for sleeping or staying, a kitchen, a toilet, a patient or a locker; its entry should come from the North or East and its walls should be white.
Build a basement only in the North, NNE, NE, East and ENE, or as a full basement that lets sun rays in; never in the South, South-West or the Brahmasthan.
N, NNE, NE, E and ENE; W and WNW only with the NE included
A boring, dug well, pit or underground water tank gives very different results in each of the 16 zones: the North and North-East zones attract wealth, while the South, South-West and the centre bring death-like suffering and money loss.
The main door should have two shutters opening inward and a height twice its width; doors and windows should be even in number, and window shutters should open outward.
An overhead tank can be built anywhere from the West to the North-West; NNW and the South-West are wrong, and a tank over the staircase is best avoided.
Make the septic tank in WNW as the first option and ESE as the second, never in the East or under the stairs, and run the underground drainage line clockwise from the South-West to the North-West.
WNW (first choice) or ESE (second); drainage line from SW to NW
Water level means that a surface lies at one equal level throughout, perfectly flat, as shown by the bubble of a spirit level. The plinth beam, main door threshold, bed, toilet seat, tijori, study table and machines should all be at water level so that the gravitational force acts correctly. A spirit level is easy to buy and is also available on mobile phones; a practical demonstration is given in the next class.
How do we find the angle and composition of the sun rays falling on a house in each season?
This is taught while preparing maps: for summer, the rainy season and winter, the particular angle at which the rays strike and their composition are worked out, so that openings and walls can be planned for the maximum benefit without demolition.
Should all the rooms of a house, apart from the bathroom, be at the same level?
Yes, all rooms should be at one level. A slope toward the North-East causes no problem, because the earth itself is tilted about 23.4 degrees toward the North-East and following nature counts as level; a slope in any other direction causes trouble.
Fly ash bricks, the grey, cement-coloured bricks made from ash, which are now widely used, for example throughout a large medical college project of about 1000 flats. They create a large Vastu defect, because Vastu lies in the material as well as in the direction.
It is the structure built below road level when a house is first dug out: the foundation, also called neev, bunyaad or daasa. The plot's shape is read from it.
Some people deliberately build the house with the North-East extended. Does that increase the energy?
Yes. Extending the North-East of the land from the foundation enlarges the place of its devta, who is pleased just as a person is with a bigger room, and it does not bring a South-East negative. But what truly counts as an extended North-East is taught later, because many people extend it the wrong way, for example from the East toward the North-East, and harm themselves.
How is the shape of a plot or building determined?
From the foundation: the outline of the foundation and plinth beam of the outermost walls, joining all the corners into a square, rectangle or other form. The geopathic current under the ground runs in that shape, so projections above ground do not change it, while an irregular foundation stays irregular even if right angles are built above it.
If the Brahmasthan is kept open on the ground floor, should the same area be kept open on every upper floor?
Keeping it open on all floors is excellent. If that is not possible, a double height open at the Brahmasthan, for example about 20 ft, still balances the space element even if it is closed above. A survey found that houses with a double height at the Brahmasthan had more happiness and peace.
Why do even small children argue with their parents nowadays?
Every house used to have ventilators at the top of the walls, which balanced the air element. They have been brought down into the windows, and since the ventilator location changed even a ten-year-old child argues back. Keep the air element balanced with proper doors, windows, top ventilation and cross-ventilation.
Does the centre taken from the boundary wall also decide where on the plot to construct?
Where to construct is taught later; for example, on a North-facing plot the building is placed in the South and West part. The pishach bhoomi is always left open on all sides. People abroad leave space all around and keep large backyards and live prosperously, while many people here leave no space at all for energy to come in.
