The bedroom colour should combine the zone colour with the colour that awakens your fortune; without a horoscope, find that colour by browsing a full colour catalogue and noting the colours you instinctively like.
The side of the chart that holds more than two planets, with at least one exalted or swagrahi planet at a good degree, is the direction that brings a person progress and happiness.
The birth chart shows which direction is strong for a person: the direction holding exalted planets, or else the most benefic planets, is the one to face, sleep and work in. Planet colours from the chart guide health, business and decoration choices.
The favourable direction: house facing, bedroom, work chamber
Chanting a planet's beej mantra is the one remedy that works in every state: it stops the bad results of a weak or debilitated planet and increases the good results of a strong one.
A chart cast for the moment someone asks about buying a plot, flat or land shows whether it is good: a fixed lagna, benefics in the kendras and a strong 4th house favour it, while malefics in the kendras warn against it.
No facing is good or bad for everyone. The direction of the house, the main door and each room are chosen from the owner's horoscope, so that the person lives in the zone of his strongest planet and avoids the zones of weak or afflicted planets.
There are 32 door positions, chosen with the help of the nine planets and twelve rashis, and the right one depends on whether the building is a home or a particular industry. Doors are studied as the boundary wall door, the main door, the main chamber door and the combination door.

Jyotish can only tell whether a coming period will be good or bad, while Vastu supplies the energy of the sun and planets. By orienting and balancing a house to capture the energy of the nine planets, the afflictions shown in a horoscope (nav graha peeda) can be removed.
A door that strengthens one element can ruin an owner whose running planetary period belongs to the opposite element. A new door that raised the fire element was opened for a sweet maker while his Moon (water) antardasha was running, and water and fire, being anti-elements, brought his business to zero.
The same vastu does not suit everyone: not every South-facing house fails and not every North-East toilet gives cancer. Interior choices of wood, metal, colour, material and artifacts are customised from a study of the planets of the person.
No zone suits everyone: a South-West bedroom, a West-South-West study, a bed in the West, or a South-facing seat or door can harm a person whose planet ruling that zone is debilitated.
Like the full aspect of Jupiter in a kundli, a devta casts its full drishti on the devta opposite it (for example Surya on Varun) and keeps it balanced; if one devta cannot be treated, balance the one whose full drishti falls on it.
E4 suits an administration chamber, office, main door, drawing room, study and bedroom and gives both wealth and peace; a toilet here brings defamation, loss of wealth and disease.
E5 is the ideal zone for a bathroom and suits administration, a manager's chamber, a locker, planning, meeting and conference rooms and a good office; a door here brings anger and a toilet brings disgrace.
In astro vastu any person can be placed in any zone according to the birth chart. Even the South-South-West suits a person whose Rahu is exalted, but a person with debilitated Rahu should not sleep, sit or run a business in the South-West.
South-West and South-South-West bedrooms and seats, and South-West facing properties
Each planet rules a direction (Sun East, Mercury North, Saturn West, Rahu South-West); if that planet is debilitated, badly placed or very low in degree in a person's kundli, a house facing, bedroom, office seat or study in its direction harms them.
House facing, master bedroom, office seat and study place
The North-West is the Moon's location; a big TV (Mars) placed there with a black horse statue on top formed a destructive Angarak yoga with Rahu, bringing accidents, fire and deaths.
The first principle of interior vastu: identify the element of the person, of the structure being built and of the activity done there, and make sure these elements are friends.
Any room or structure: bedroom, office, kitchen, factory, study table
In the kundli chart the top (1st) house is East, the 4th house North, the 7th house West and the 10th house South, with the corners as the sub-directions; these directions stay fixed while rashis and planets move.
If Venus (Shukra) and the Moon (Chandra) sit together in a kundli there is domestic discord, and keeping their colours, statues or artefacts together at home increases it further.
Anywhere in the home, especially where artefacts are grouped
The elephant represents Rahu, so elephant statues or hanging-elephant bandhanwar (toran) do not suit every home, especially where the family's Rahu is debilitated.
Doors, walls and any place where toran or statues are hung
Each planet is exalted (uchcha) in one rashi and debilitated (neech) in the seventh rashi from it: Sun 1 and 7, Moon 2 and 8, Mars 10 and 4, Mercury 6 and 12, Jupiter 4 and 10, Venus 12 and 6, Saturn 7 and 1.
Interior vastu is customised vastu: arranging and decorating the inside of a home, office, factory, temple, school or hospital according to the particular owner's horoscope, so that the nine planets, the three forces and the five elements are balanced for that person.
Whole building: home, office, factory, temple, school, college, hospital or industry
Every trade belongs to a planet; using that planet's colour, shape, artefacts, paintings, metals, mirrors and glass at the business multiplies its energy, while a clashing colour can shut it down.
The fourth principle of interior vastu: study the physical and chemical properties of every building, decoration and remedy material (metal, wood, stone, adhesive, paint) and choose them according to the owner's planets.
Every planet affects the house it sits in and casts its aspect on the 7th house from it; Saturn also aspects the 3rd and 10th, Jupiter the 5th and 9th, Mars the 4th and 8th, and many astrologers give Rahu and Ketu the 5th and 9th.
The puja room is made in the Ishaan (North-East) because it is Jupiter's location; its energy calms the mind, builds concentration and turns it to devotion.
When several people live in a house, whose horoscope decides the facing and the main door, and how long does a house affect the family?
The griha swami's (house owner's) horoscope is used; the method is taught in the astro Vastu classes. The effect of a house carries on for up to three generations.
This is a subject of astro vastu. Different items represent different planets; if a planet is very negative in your kundli and you keep the item that represents it, the negativity grows further. Which item suits which home, and with what, is covered in interior vastu.
Does a toilet in the North-East always cause cancer, and is every South-facing house bad?
No. If it did, the owners of five and seven star hotels, which commonly have toilets in the North-East, would suffer first, and every South-facing owner would be ruined. Vastu must be read together with the planets of the person, which are exalted and which debilitated, instead of blindly applying one rule to everyone.
How far does the influence of a devta reach beyond its own pad?
As in a kundli, where Jupiter blesses whatever it aspects with full drishti, a devta also aspects the devta opposite it; Surya, for example, balances Varun. If you cannot balance a devta directly, balance the devta whose full drishti falls on it, and its gaze will set it right.
In the case where all four family members had a weak Sun, why would four separate kundlis show the same pattern?
Members of one family almost always have nearly the same planetary placements; there is a symmetry among their charts, and that is why they are born into the same family. In that case the Sun was badly placed in all four charts, so the East-facing house harmed the whole family.
The kundli chart was shown with directions. How are those directions used, and what can a kundli tell about a house?
Go by the houses, not the numbers written in them: the top house is the 1st house (East) and the 4th house is North. If the planets on the North side are strong, the North direction is very good for the person. A kundli can even reveal where a person's house is, where its door is, how many windows it has and where a nearby river, pond or temple lies, so a map of the house can be drawn without seeing it.
If a house has four members, whose kundli should be used for its vastu?
Primarily the grih swami's, the person whose money is going into the house, because the house affects the owner and his next three generations; do not go by the name the property is registered in, such as a daughter. The facing and main door are chosen from the grih swami's chart, for example North if his Mercury is exalted or his North-side planets are strong. Where a child sleeps or studies is decided from the child's own chart: if the child's Mercury is weak, seat him in the South instead of the North, following the 180-degree rule for a weak planet.
If one family member has a planet exalted and another has it debilitated, should that planet's items be kept in the interior?
Decide room by room. In your own bedroom use the materials of your exalted planet and not of your debilitated one; your daughter's bedroom is designed from her kundli. The house facing and common areas such as the drawing room and kitchen are decided from the grih swami's kundli. Many people make the master bedroom in the South-West by default, which is wrong when Rahu is debilitated: such people suffered there and got very good results after moving to another direction.
If a person's date of birth is not known correctly and no kundli can be made, how are their land and house planned?
The planets are still there even if the kundli is lost. A perfect kundli can be made from the thumb through Bhrigu Samhita, and Nadi astrologers also prepare it. A Prashna kundli can be cast, and Samudrik shastra (reading the body) also shows which planets are exalted or debilitated. Get this worked out by an astrologer.
In the example of the Sun in the 8th house, would an East entrance have suited if the Sun had been retrograde?
Possibly, but then its degree and the aspects on it, such as a benefic planet's aspect, would have to be checked. A house is built only once, so such a risk should not be taken. Retrograde (vakri) planets are taught later in the course.
