A practitioner should know at least 20 methods of testing land energy, and the diploma teaches 25. They include the swar method (the change in one's swar on stepping onto the land), organic, inorganic, physical, chemical, biological, botanical, mechanical, water-movement and petrology methods, pendulum dowsing, nimitta and shakun.
The plot under consideration
Join both hands under the nostrils and breathe out once; the nostril whose air strikes the back of the palms more strongly is the active swar.
A flag with flowers tied inside is hoisted on the East side of a land, flat or industrial plot in an auspicious muhurta or in Chandra swar and then released; the direction in which it flies reveals the land's quality.
East side of the land, flat or industrial land
Your pulse is measured before and after reaching a flat or land: if it stays in the normal range the place is very good, and if it is disturbed or the heartbeat rises the place is not good. The nadi active at that moment also shows whether the land is sattvic or rajasic.
On reaching the flat or land
Before entering a land, note which nostril is active and how far down and in what direction the breath flows; step onto the land first with the foot of the active side, walk one full round while watching the breath, and read the land's quality and defects from it.
On the land, starting from the point of entry
A built-in scanner: in Surya swar the arms are spread wide and the palms brought slowly together; the distance at which a tingling current stops them shows the energy of the land or flat.
Any spot on the land or in the flat
A swastik drawn with kesar on a whitewashed surface stays bright for 24 to 48 hours where the energy is good; if it fades or vanishes, the energy is disturbed or an outside negative influence (bahari hawa) is present.

Besides measuring how many angul the breath reaches, the active element (tatva) can be recognised from the state of the mind: steadiness, joy, restlessness, anger or indifference.
Dowsing is a natural quality of highly sensitive people rather than something learnt; certain sensitivities, and a current felt in the hands while holding a rod, show that a person is a dowser.
The body is the best scanner: with the right nostril (surya swar) active, hold the breath, rub the palms and slowly bring the outstretched arms together; the width at which a resisting current stops the hands shows the land energy.
On the land or in the room being tested
Getting up at about 2 or 3 am to pass urine is not counted as waking up. The tithi swar is checked at the moment you actually wake from sleep; it has nothing to do with the time of sunrise.
The earth element (prithvi tatva) has the longest share, 20 of every 60 minutes among the five tatvas of a swar. In the same way, the earth element of the land, its land energy, carries 70 percent of the result in vastu.
All the methods are good, but no method in the world is greater than swar. Many methods cannot be used in a flat, while swar can check a flat, a land or anything else. Learn swar well, practise it and do nadi shodhan; then you may not even need to visit the plot, because someone standing there can phone you and you can tell from where you are.
The left part of a woman is always considered auspicious, which is why she is called vamangi, and moles or marks on her left side are also auspicious. In swar vigyan the Chandra (left) nadi represents the female and the Surya (right) nadi the male, so an active left side or a good sign on the left of the body is favourable for a woman and the right side for a man. If a man's left eye or a woman's right eye twitches on reaching a land, the land is very bad, because the sign is working against that person.
A question gets a true answer only when the person being asked sits with a calm, concentrated mind and steady chitta, ideally early in the morning in brahma muhurta at his seat. If he has been working for hours with his Surya swar active and you ask at that moment, the same swar keeps running and no connection with your question forms. Sending repeated messages does not create the connection either.
The scanner reading and the results in life should match; if the scanner says the energy is fine while the problems continue, the scanner is at fault. The best scanner is the one built into you, your own breath. Check the home with your swar after nadi shodhan instead of relying on market scanners.
The pit water test tells whether it will balance. If all the air bubbles in the pit merge and vanish, everything will become fine after treatment.
It is best to remove shoes and slippers, though wearing them causes no real problem, because the reading comes from the air you inhale after it meets the land, and you can breathe either way. Barefoot, the current also enters the body directly through the bhoomi chakra of the earth element in the big toe of the right foot, in addition to the nose.
In hand scanning, hold the breath only while spreading the arms; then release it and bring the hands together slowly without holding it. While throwing the coconut, take a breath and let it go as you throw.
Yes, all the methods taught here are to be done in Surya swar; the kesar swastik in particular is drawn in the earth (prithvi) tatva of Surya swar.
Use the pit water method taught in the previous class. With swar, walk the whole land: if the same swar keeps running with the water or earth element throughout, whether it is Chandra swar or Surya swar, the land is good.
Yes, the swar becomes reversed; during a cold the Chandra swar runs more. To clear accumulated kapha, change the swar and run the Surya swar, forcibly if needed; congestion built up over many days takes time and will not clear in a day. The body stays warm inside however cold it is outside, just as borewell water comes out warm in winter.
